Secondary dealer installed alarm?

Hey all, I know there are two alarms in my '97 and would like to rid myself of the secondary one,as I think someone had it put in just to see that pretty red led flashing on the dash, but I don't want to go a-rippin' without a plan. Any ideas. Thanks in advance. Your pal AL.

I'd take it to a reputable stereo/alarm shop if you don't know what you're doing. It's way too easy to fry electronics nowadays.

Basically...the only thing that you need to be concerned about is the main wire going to the ignition switch. It will most likely be black with a yellow stripe or yellow with a black stripe (I can find out if you plan on disconnecting it). All the other wires for the alarm do not effect the car, they are just there to power the alarm/lights/horn(siren). If you unwrap the wiring you'll see what I'm talking about.

To install an alarm, they cut the main wire going to your starter from the ignition switch. They then run one side of that wire to a relay and then back out of the relay to the other end of the wire they cut. The other part of the relay will be triggered by the alarm which will complete the circuit, trip the relay, and allow the start signal to go to the starter.

So....find the ONLY wire they cut, remove the wires to the alarm, and use a butt connector and re-attach the two ends back together, making it stock again. Then all the other alarm wires will just be tapped in (spade connectors) and you can just unplug them.

VERY easy....nothing to be afraid of. Installing an alarm is difficult...tearing one out is EASY! :D

Which battery ground wire?

There are three of them. One bolted to each motor mount to engine bracket, and... crud, where's the third one... I can't remember.

:D

Edit: Oh yeah... Passenger side front wheel well at the frame.

Man you people are great, but can't I just remove the brain for the secondary alarm. I don't mean to question you. Just have to ask Thanx J and Bud.

You CAN remove the brain, but as J said, you have to re-connect the main power wire going into the alarm brain. That would be the spliced main ignition switch wire.

Removing the brain would be too easy, lol. Like Guy said...remove the brain and re-connect the cut ignition wire and you're done. But.......why not remove it entirely rather then have tons of wires under your dash that do nothing?

Hey now... I have tons of extra wires under the dash of one of my pick-up trucks. They look bling-bling, y0!

hahaha.

No, really.. I do. But to be honest, they all have a reason to be there. Four pillar gauges, three over the mirror gauges, boost controller, hard wired cell phone, XM receiver, blah blah blah... I just never got around to tidying them up.
