Serpentine belt replacement

Any tips or tricks on replacing the serpentine belt on a 2000 Continental? I purchased a replacement, but I couldn't even get my 1/2" drive into the tensioner. I purchased a tool that should fit, but realized I can't even get my hand in there to position the new belt. Can it be accessed from the bottom more easily? Do you remove the coolant tank or some other component to gain access?

I have a book (Chilton's) but it is pretty useless.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Serpentine belt replacement

I looked at that and started to unbolt it, but the bolts didn't seem to be backing out as I expected and I wasn't sure it would even move enough given the connections. Now I know that's the right path, I'll forge ahead. Thanks very much.

What are the diagrams from? Are the CD/DVD based repair manuals worth it? Any recommendations? As I said before, the Chilton's book is most useful for wiping grease from my hands (or lining the hampster cage).

Thanks again.

You can usually find them on eBay. Or you can go to www.helminc.com

I buy manuals from Helms -- the first thing I do after buying a car.

The jury is still out about whether or not the CD's are better than the books.

Thanks for the pointers. The "2000 Continental Service Manual" looks like the document I need. I'll probably spring for the CD-ROM.
