I pulled up to the light next to this huge white MB S550. I didn't anticipate a race since Mercedes-Benz S class drivers usually aren't very "racy". When the light changed he took off and jumped me by a car length before I realized I was in a race. I floored it and the tires started squealing. My front bumper was even with his rear bumper and stayed that way through first gear. When I hit second the tires barked and I started to gain on him. When I pulled even he hit the brakes and pulled behind me. We were on a four lane road with no traffic either way. There were masonry walls around developments to the side so no one could pull in front of us. It worked for me. I was supprised at how fast it was so I checked it out.
Mercedes-Benz S550 - In testing, the 5.5-liter V8 with 382 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque propelled the 4,270-pound S550 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. The quarter-mile flew by in 14.2 seconds with a trap speed of 101 mph. The quickest runs were accomplished by letting the engine and seven-speed transmission do all the work. Manually shifting by means of the steering-wheel-mounted shift buttons actually produced slower times, an indication that the shift algorithms have been massaged as much for speed as smoothness
