speedo gear on gen 2?

Is anyone running a speedo gear on a gen 2 with gears? My car's speedo MPH is right on point but it will hit the rev limiter once in a while going WOT in drive on the 1-2 shift?

It shouldn't have one. You need a chip to calibrate it, or a tuner.....I thought you had a Spider or something?

I have the Sniper Tuner and you can't recalibrate any pre 99 car for gears via a chip or tuner. All you can do is up the line pressure and raise the rev limiter to make the car shift properly. I think what might be happening is the delay between the commanded shift point and the actual shift point making me hit the rev limiter. I just changed it from commanded 6900rpm shift to a 6700rpm shift and it seems to be shifting right at 6990 on the 1-2 according to the datalogger.

I had to have a white speedo gear put in my Mark for the 410's to help with the shifting of the car. My speedometer was accurate before and after the white gear install. Aric set my shifting point so the gear change would happen at 7150 rpm, and he also set the rev limiter there.

During a WOT run at the track, mine would bounce once of the limiter and force the shift at the same time. He needs more track time to dial it in on the tune with slicks on the car, because it is very difficult to tune the thing when the tires do nothing but spin.

Mike that's exactly what happens with my car, it hits the rev limiter and forces the shift at the same time. Where did you get the white speedo gear, Ford dealer?

I believe so, Serge. Aric got it and installed it for me. Like 10 bucks or so, and maybe a minute to install on a lift.

SPEEDCAL for GEN 2

SPEEDCAL for GEN 2

I went the SPEEDCAL route because you can't buy a plastic gear that's "perfect" for the 4.30 gears. NOTE: I installed it with the transmission out, so it was easy to drill a hole through the floor from under the car. I hid the box under the console behind the shifter. I'd look at your car and figure out how to install it before ordering one. Drilling from the top might be an option.

Even with this, I had to get a tune from Lonnie to get the shifts "right".

Yes, there is a gear. There are other functions that are speed related within the ECU that do not run off the front abs sensor - e.g. shift schedule. :) Check out my tach and speedometer closely when I go WOT in the video. The speedo does run off the transmission - or it has some type of input. Not very smooth speedo acceleration when there is no traction. It should not matter if it was just running off the front ABS. It should be a smooth increase in speed.

Go for a ride in The Mark!

It also affects when the car is lowered at highway speeds. Mine lowers at about 40-45 and raises back up at ~25.
