This is my first post so be gentle with me. I went on a trip for a week came back jumped in my car, turned the key and nothing. All the lights work fine, the panel lights up, the radio is full, the remote entry works, even the airsystem pumps up. Therefore Plenty of battery power; I had the battery checked it is fine. The key, ignition does nothing. since there is no starter relay, could it be the starter? I walked through all of the CBs and fuses they are all fine. Help Any suggestions, I love my car. thanks. :) Big Lar

try starting it in neutral or move the shifter around back and forth around park and neutral while holding the key in the start position see if thats it

RE: Starting MarkVIII LSC 95

The solenoid is built into the starter, right ? I'm having the exact same problem except mine usually starts about ONCE every eight hours.

Well, the solenoid can be replaced without replacing the whole starter, But it is not worth it IMHO.

Mr Driller Sir,

Can the heat sheild be easily applied AFTER the starter has been installed ? ba

RE: Starting MarkVIII LSC 95

Based on the fact that Driller is batting 1000 % in the advice department with me over the years I risked installing a new starter. He's still batting a 1000. Thanks to all else for the advice too.

Yes, either the one with velcro or the heat wrap with SS straps, both can be wrapped around the starter with just a little patience. If you have extra, put the double thickness between the starter and exhaust.

I take it that it works now? :)

The Gen2s still stump me on occasion.::uh::

RE: Starting MarkVIII LSC 95

Yup, works perfectly. Oddly, unlike any other starter problems from the past, this one didn't give ANY indication that it was about to fail. The electronics in the solenoid must get cooked from the heat off the exhaust, eh ? The description of your problem was SOO like mine that I risked buying the new starter instead of paying $ 50.00 for a diagnostic test. - I've lost track of all the money you've saved me so far JP. Thanks again !

RE: Starting MarkVIII LSC 95

The casing on the starter I removed looked to be disintegrating slightly at one spot from the heat. - The heat shields I've seen on the net appear to be made of something shiny (metallic?) on the exterior which makes me wonder if there's any threat to shorting something out if it gets sqeezed against a terminal inadvertantly. Is this a legit concern ?

RE: Starting MarkVIII LSC 95

Properly installed, it shouldn't be an issue. I've had mine on for quite a while now with no problems.
