Strange noise on cold startup

Hey everyone,

94 Mk 8, 116,000 miles. Suspension conversion, air switch off.

On cold start, I have a strange moan/whistle noise, maybe a related issue also when cold, a stumble off idle when taking off from a stop.

Idle air control valve? Dirty throttle body, vacuum leak when cold? Or air compressor energizing?

Oh yeah about that switch.....cut the green on dark green wire they say......I saw only one green on dark green wire, cut it, that was the air bag wire, now I have a flashing air bag light, sigh......

Of all the suggested sources, my money is on a vacuum leak. As these cars age, the rubber connections/components often lose their flexibility, particularly when cold.

Often people suggest smoke testing to detect any leaks. I like to isolate any vacuum circuits and test with a hand pump type vacuum source to see if vacuum can be held.

The air bag light is for the supplemental restraint system not the air ride. Two different circuits.

could this noise be from the air injection pump behind the front bumper cover? That runs for a while as the exhaust comes up to temperature.
