Stuck CDs in Gen 1 Trunk Player

Roadboss

On Work Release
I have abandoned my stock in dash stereo and have a replacement. My problem is and has been that the trunk mounted factory CD unit is holding hostage my CDs. I want to retrieve these CDs and am asking if there is a civilized way to retrieve them from this unit or do we have to get real nasty?

..I used to be able to reset the changer and then hit eject and it would spit them out. Then it refused to do that. I had to take it apart. At that time I hollowed it out and now it is decoration.

Thanks to Bud I adleast was a partial success. His suggestion on resetting the unit by disconnecting the battery cable worked like a champ. Once the cable was reconnected to the battery I could here the player cycling thru all the slots. Once it was done doing that I pushed the eject button and out popped the cassette. Hoorah!!! This should be posted in out tech help spot.

Now for the ugly. My DD has the new Sony in it so the above didn't work, so this means more drastic measures are in the works. It's cocktail hour and just to hot right now to work on it, maybe tomorrow AM. I will up date on how it goes. Thanks for all those suggestions.

Final imput to this adventure. I went to work on my 96 DD to see if I could retrieve the hostage CDs in it that would not release with the battery cable disconnect method.

What I did was to remove the whole unit from the trunk by removing three screws that held the CD frame to the car body. After removing the six screws Phillips that held the bracket to the CD player I then removed about a dozen small Phillips screws around the CD player cabinet and slid the guts out. There is a small component board that is held in with about 6 tiny Phillips screws and I removed them as well as I learned there is a large drive whell that should be rotated in order to free the cartridge. As I was removing this small component board the cartridge unit popped out. "Free at Last, they're Free at Last". Thanks guys for all the suggestions I hope this thread will help someone else in the future.

in the future burned cds work in the player so don't put originals in it. But glad you got them out! :D
