Post to this thread if youre going on Nov 5th. We all can meetup at the hotel. I see we got another Mark VIII from Panama City FL going too. Im from Fort Walton Beach FL. This will be my first official run with the car, and first 1/4 mile with her. All we got is 1/8's down here unless you wanna travel. Can't wait.

RE: Super Heavy weight Shootout in Atlanta

This is an event I've always wanted to go to. I can't commit right now, but I hope I can work something out.

RE: Super Heavy weight Shootout in Atlanta

Cool, I'm suprised i have not met him yet as i always go to P City on weekends and would of definately tried to talk to him if i saw his Mark. I paid my 65.00 registration fees with Paypal, but i dont see my name and car added to the participant list. I see 49 participants so far, 4 of them Mark 7 & 8's plus mine would be five against the rest of the list. I'm gonna get stompped seeing some of their times, but it will still be a blast.
I'll probably stay at the Hampton on the link they have listed one mile from the track. My cell 850-225-0034 should still be active, but theres no way for me to check it by firing it up over here in Iraq. Once i cross over into the US net, it should turn itself back on and I'll have it with me on way up to Atlanta. Is gas still outrageous there? When i left it was 1.87 for high test. Now i hear its 3.25? owwwww x(

RE: Super Heavy weight Shootout in Atlanta

I just saw this while reading the tech rules. "Driveshaft loop in 1) cars running slicks 13.99 or quicker" I know mine should be quicker than 14.00 in the 1/4, but don't know for sure till i get a slip in the 1/4. Best run i had in FL was 9.002 in the 1/8th on 4 Brigstone Pole Position 245 50-16's with the old tranny and stock TConvertor.

Where do you suggest i pick up one of those kit bolt in driveshaft loops? Summitt or Jegs? Or is there a cheaper vendor that is NHRA track approved? I'm not sure if buget will allow the purchase of slicks and weld 5 stars before i leave, but im planning for it. Also, it would be cool to hookup with Marvin and cruise up there behind him. Panama City is only like 1/2 hour away from where i am. He will be going right by me to get to ATL.

RE: Super Heavy weight Shootout in Atlanta

Technically, doesn't the Mark VIII have a driveshaft loop?

RE: Super Heavy weight Shootout in Atlanta

yeah i thought i could get away with the crossover, but mine is long gone due to my exhaust. It kept on vibrating on high RPMS so we took it off. I'm running the one piece MMX driveshaft. Driller are you going to go to?

I wish. :( I love some of those FLM machines entered in the event.

Unfortunately, with my work schedule and the travel distance, it is highly unlikely.

I hear ya, about the work schedule. I missed last years, and the one they had for mustangs and fast fords luxobarge shootout due to TDYs. I'm finally going to get to go to my first major event, well at least for me. I'll be bringing my digi camera so ill take pics for the board when im walking the pits. I know how you feel as i always see the big events over in Cali and Mid West areas and can't make them.

RE: Super Heavy weight Shootout in Atlanta - SSHS5

Its not looking good for me. Times a wasting and key parts still havent got here yet. I got the tranny and its all good, but my hood came in a box and both ends were cracked from the shipper. Also old blue suffered some cosmetic hurricane damage from Hurricane Dennis. A dent in door from projectile of some sort, and scratches down left side of car. Kudos go out to my technician over there at dealership because hes working me into his extremely busy schedule. I'm in midst of getting the tranny installed at dealership, but its getting close and i would of liked to get the car back to JMS racing in AL to get dynotuned for the bottle. If i have to come up to ATL with a primer grey hood installed and battle damage fro hurricane, no laughing! ;) hahah
Im still gonna try like heck to make it and meet all you guys. I'm also in heated debate with my crazy ex-girlfriend who took my truck to New Hampshire and its hidden up there somewhere near manchester. After the 4th month i think she snapped. I have the address and will give to anyone that wants to do a driveby to check on my truck. Its probably the only fleetside short bed up there with florida plates, and a Trans Am front licence plate. We got any spys around that wanna do a driveby to locate my blue meanie? And IM me back on its condition? latest "story" from her is it has a blown engine and is being "fixed" by what shadetree mechanic I dont know and im worried about somone else wrenching on my truck. My My the rumors fly, and the things you find out when you return home from a TDY. Heres a pic.

DRIVELINE LOOP

DRIVELINE LOOP

if you crawl under the back end of your Mark VIII, and look just forward of the rear u-joint/drive flange, you will see...none other than... a driveline loop.

Exhaust NEVER constitutes a driveline loop, so dont count on that as "acceptable".

Scary enough to think our gas tank is also a driveline loop.

anyway, the Mark VIII will pass 99% of all technical inspections for NHRA sanctioned events except the following:

if you run slicks, your axle studs must be replaced to pass THROUGH the lug-nuts by the equal distance to the studs diameter.

you cannot run any form of removable hubcap/wheel cover that is removable without removing the wheel from the car(they tend to ignore this one).

Sierra, are you running D5 slicks? Or just drag radials? If the tire is DOT approved for highway use, the wheel stud rule is void, so dont sweat it.

have fun gang. The only event I have seen near me that even remotely resembles SSHS is a "Ford heavy vs Chevy heavy shootout"

Impala's, crown vics, marauders, etc....oh, and it's "heads up", meaning a true(and proven) bracket racer like me in a high 14-second Mark VIII cant race.
