Test Drove a Mini-Cooper S

While bouncing around Montana, I had a chance to drive a Mini Cooper S. I was very impressed. That car had bunches of power. I got on it twice, and each time I was over 90MPH by 4th gear. At 70MPH, the tack was 3000 RPM in 6th gear. Using a calculator, that comes out to 158.7MPH at a redline of 6800RPM. I think the speedometer goes to 160. When I first saw the 160, I though that was some engineer’s hopeful dream. Now I’m not so sure.

While doing my several WOT, it had a turbo buzz to the motor while inhaling. It was ONLY when I was WOT. I could not see a turbo or supercharger, so I don’t know. For a 4 cylinder, this little thing hauls as if it is blown. My sister was no help in answering the question. We could barely find the hood release (it’s on the RIGHT side of the car – must be English,. Huh?)

I must admit I was under the impression that the Mini-Cooper had a motor just this side of a Briggs and Stratton.

But not now.

The Cooper "S" is boosted...I just forget how.
