The best snow tires PICS

I finally got some pics of the snow tires I am running this winter. After last winter with the 245/50's I decided it was worth buying a set of tires for the snow. They are mounted on blacked out t-bird SC rims. I'm not a big fan of tall tires on the mark, especially since I usually have the shorter 245/50's. But these tires in combination with the LSD makes this car amazing in the snow. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!! I'm very happy with the car in snow, when last year I wouldn't drive if there was more than 2 inches of snow on the road. (Excuse how dirty the rims and the car looks, I was trying to rinse the salt off the car)

The rear tires BF Goodrich all-terrain t/a KO's 225/70's, this is the SMALLEST size you can get in this tire. Many places don't even carrry it.

RE: The best snow tires PICS

Funny, that tread pattern looks almost identical to the BFG T/A KO's i'm running on my blazer. That thing does really well in the snow, esp. with 4x4.

Just goes to show how much a good set of tires can do, eh?

RE: The best snow tires PICS

I was thinking the exact same thing. I have BFG AT KOs on my bronco and it does great in the snow.

RE: The best snow tires PICS

I wrote about the tires inbetween the pics, including size and type =). The rear tires are BFG all terrain t/a ko's. Snow tires are worth their weight in gold, especially since I have to commute 50 miles to work, and a good snow storm is rolling in tomorrow! The rear tires are a little bit of a tight fit, but there are no rubbing issues. When I brought the rims to the tire place for mounting they looked at me like a was crazy when I told them they were going on a mark viii. Well they looked at me the same way when I went to have them mount the 245's. They said they would damage my car, and most likely wouldn't fit, what a bunch of dumb ass's.

RE: The best snow tires PICS

LOL, i missed where you said what kind of tires they were. All i saw was the front tire that says "cooper" on the side.

RE: The best snow tires PICS

haha yea LSD would make anything amazing I guess =) I bought the cobra center section with the 3.73's and the traction lock, limited slip, whatever you want to call it

I run four Goodyear Ultragrip mud and snow tires on my 1998 Mark VIII CE during the winter months. I drove it tonight in the snowstorm we are having in New York. The traction control rarely kicks in.

The BFG T/A KO's rock! I have them on the Powerstroke this year. I rarely need the 4WD. I've heard the Hummer also uses this tire as OEM.

RE: The best snow tires PICS

I prefer a tire that has siping for the icy conditions. The tires above look more for deep snow and off road. You'll notice most of the winter tires for todays passenger cars could probably be called ice tires when compared to the standard snow tires shown above, because not too many of them have very deep or aggressive tread patterns. If you ever see someone with blizzaks on their car walk up to it and squish the tread part, it is very spongy, and that combined with the siping is what I think benefits tires most in icy conditions.

I love the black wheel look though, I may have to consider that.

RE: The best snow tires PICS

Yes, very true. My back tires are definitely not the best thing for ice, but it's not a big worry of mine. Now the front tires are cooper weather masters and those have the sniping you are talking about. Those steer and stop the car very well in more icy conditions. I also wanted something that you never usually see on a passenger car. It freaks some people out in parking lots when they get out of their truck and my back tires are the same size as theirs!! Actually those cooper weathermasters are great tires, those all the way around would perform excellent in the snow.
