The Right Tires

My Lincoln Dealer sent me an offer on tires for my MarkVIII98 basic Model.
They are saying that Goodyear Eagle RS-A are the right tires for my car at 147.95 each plus mounting, blancing and taxes. Seems a bit highto me and I am sure I can get the same tire at a better price.
My question is - Is this really the best tire for my car?
Any input appreciated.

They say that because of their partnership with Goodyear.

Go to www.tirerack.com. They have an exhaustive database with all sorts of test ratings and customer survey results. You can filter tires by performance type, weather type, size, speed rating, and brand. A need-to-see site for anyone buying tires.

RE: The Right Tires

Goodyear Assurance for $107 at tirerack. Look at the treadwear stats.. Twice the tire for less $$$. $30 for shipping, $50 for mount and balance, and you are still way ahead of the game!! And they are ALL season, and unlikely to hydroplane.

Very good point...most people overlook that. The real cost of a tire is the price divided by the treadwear rating. I've seen touring tires with treadwear of 150 and high performance tires with treadwear of 400...go fig.

RE: The Right Tires

Check your local car forums for high perfomence tires. I bought four new Kumho Ecsta MX tires for only $400. No one else was making offers and they sat there for a month before the guy got annoyed with them and started cutting prices. They were 245/35 or 40/18 I forget which.

They aren't that great at the track with my big heavy chrome wheels but stick very well on the street.

Finding decent low profile tires for $100ea or less aint easy. But finding somethin in your size should be.

BTW I have some black painted snowflakes on continental tires that have 15,000 or so miles left on them.

Hey JoeMark8 i just brought the Dumantis 18"rims off Ebay and 245/45-ZR18s Nexen N3000 man what a profile i got so many compliments on the look.It rides a little hard in the city because of all the chuck holes here in one of the poorest cities Cleveland Ohio. But man on the freeway i had the Mark up to 70 with no problems in the rain.I dont recommend anybody try this. But i like to know what a car will do in case of a emergency. So good luck.
