Thinking about rims.

Well I'm thinking about new rims by some time during the summer. I would have probably gotten them sooner if it wasn't for the fairly new tires on my mark (not ready to throw out $430 worth of tires).
My rims (1 or 2 of them) seem to be causing vibration issues with my mark. It is either a vibration in the steering wheel or out in the back, depending on where the damaged rim(s) are at. Both types of vibrations are incredibly annoying. I've had my wheels balanced and rebalanced many times and I’ve even watched them put it on the machine get a 0.00 rating for the wheel weights only to find out that once the wheels were back on that i still have a vibration problem.

Now to get to the point.
I have basically two options

1. The cheaper option would be getting 1 or two chrome directionals and putting my current tires on. But I’m rather scarred of purchasing used wheels since they would inherently have the same problems as mine. And the stock rims run for $550 at the dealer or for $330 or so used which is far too much money for a rim like that.

2. I'm not thinking about anything crazy. Most likely 17s or 18s with 255 or 275 tires all around. I'm wondering what combo of wheels/tires would give me a similar speedometer reading (there was a link somewhere but i don't have it handy). Also i wanted to keep the wheel/tire combo under $1000. Or somewhere close to that (1300 tops)

Any thoughts are more than welcome. What do you guys think i should do??

RE: Thinking about rims.

Im in the same boat - two of my directionals are not so true anymore and cause enough vibration to make me hate the car.
I also need some sticky tires to put all this power to the ground. I'm thinking 17 cobra R's.

Max,
If you really like the 10 spoke directionals, another option would be to try and find out which 2 are bad and send them to wheel collision center.
[http://www.wheelcollision.com/index.html] . They straighten rims and re chrome them as well. The have the directionals for $325 each with an exchange.

hehehe that chick is quite something ;-)!

Well back to business,
Jeremi yea i'm in exactly the same boat as you i was thinking 17x9 cobra Rs as well. But they are fairly pricy no?? Yea btw thats one of the places where i checked out the wheels already as i said around 330 for a chrome directional is way too much in my opinion.

RE: Thinking about rims.

17" cobras go for $150 a pop, there is a guy here that sells them for that.
