timing chain?

I am new to this forum but you may be able to tell by my name I have a 04 yellow gto which I race and it runs 10.3@131. The car in question is my wife's 2001 LS with the 3.9 DOHC V-8. The other day when she went to start it the engine just spun over with very little resistance as though the plugs were out of it. First guess would be the timing chain but the car only has ~65,000 miles on it. I have not taken it apart due to the weather but was wondering if these cars have a history of timing chain issues. Sounds like a lack of compression, but its most likely just a fuel problem. "Prime" the fuel pump see if it is working, and then check pressure at the fuel rail. Then go onto checking for spark.

If the timing chain went, you'd know.
