Timing Chains

Started My Mark Today After Work And Heard A Slight Chatter Coming From The Front Of The Engine. It Sounds Like Its Coming From The Timing Chains. Maybe A Bad Tensioner. Any Thoughts On This Would Be Helpful.

What's the clattering noise I hear when I start my car? It goes away after a few seconds.

This is common on the Mark VIII, and is caused by oil leakdown, causing the secondary cam tensioners to rattle. The 'fix' from Ford costs about $1200, and requires serious disassembly of the front of the motor. While annoying, it typically will not cause damage. Installation of a pre-oiler will stop this, and some have had luck with various oils and anti-drainback filters.

As Long As It Wont Granade My Engine Im Not Going To Worry About It. Thanks Man. Did They Solve This Problem By 96. I Have A 96 Cobra And It Doesnt Chatter At All?

No sure about the years, I have not heard of it being an issue with the 2nd gens Marks (97-98)
I think the people who do have it solve it with an oil filter that has the anti-drainback feature.

Bingo! :D Nothing to worry about, just like the old Nissan engines (86-93) they rattle until the oil pressure is high enough.

ill just get a motorcraft oil filter the next oil change i do.thanks everyone for the help. it put my mind at ease.

It's not worth a pre oiler. But to answer your question, expensive, and a pain in the ass.
