Tire kingdom rant

I'm pissed. I had 149+mph tires on the mark and needed new rubbers. the manager told me that the traction T/A by BFgoodrich was alot better tire.

They were put on and the wheels were mounted backwards and I find out they're H rated and complain and their reply was "when are you going to do 120 for an hour?" and I told him I can cruise at 150 in third.

My mom took the car and was crusing at 120 on her way to disney last year. I'm annoyed.

They are not rated equal to replacement tires for the Mark VIII. If you're not happy, make them take them back.

I actually had to persuade a tire shop to sell me H-rated tires once for my '93.

Talk directly to the manager.

A good manager will want to keep happy customers. Don't be rude but be adamant and firm. You should have been informed the tires were not equal to the manufacturer's tire ratings for your car - period. That's what most people expect when they go to buy tires.

The real problem with tire ratings is that an H rated tire acts different than a V rated tire at any speed, be it 80 100 or 120 mph. They installed tires that were not meant for this car. It's their fault. I don't care if you driven it a day or 10 days.

I went back this morning after work and I told the guy that I wasn't made aware that the tires had a less than factory speedrating and that I put less than 2miles on them.

He checked to make sure I wasn't b/s-ing him and when he found out that the factory rating was V his response was "well are you going to be doing 149mph?" so I told him I've been having to do alot of dyno runs lately and I bring it up to 6k in third gear and at that rpm the car's spinning the back wheels at 150mph.

His next response was "Well are you going to be doing that on the street?" I told him it was a loaded dyno (I didn't want to tell him yes but I've gone pretty fast. haha)

After I told him it was a loaded dyno his response was the same "Are you going to be doing that on the street?"

He ended up ordering a pair of nitto 450s after I flat out told him I don't want them.

I don't get it. I bet if a customer walked in to put tires on his Ford GT40 the guy wouldn't put H rated tires on even though he pretty much knows the customer isn't going to do over 150 anywhere.

I know this question doesn't belong in this thread, but they also told me I needed new rear shocks because they were leaking air. I asked if they ment the air bags and they said no the shocks? I thought they were regular shocks, no?

Good for you! :)

Based on your experience with this garage, I would not put much merit in his diagnosis.

Your Mark VIII has regular shocks in the rear.

Simply based on his remark, you may want to investigate for an air leak on the rear air suspension bags. Best way is with a soapy water spray.

unless you see yours shocks with liquid all over them they should be fine. When I first picked up my Mark, I went to America's Tires in Roseville and they locked my keys in the car. I just got the car so I forgot the keypad combo, they wouldn't even call somebody or have a slim jim hanging around. I had to call my insurance company to get a locksmith on the way, I canceled that because my friend was near by with the spare keys. Anyhow I was amazed at the little ****head kids working there and they lost my business for life.

Shocks also have a mileage limit. They may not leak, but after 100k miles, they are shot....mine were.

Also note: the bounce test doesn't work for cars with air suspension.

Those specific tires come in both H and V ratings. You have to specify which one you want when you purchase them.

However, the shop should have known that and asked for clarification from you. I hope they'll work with you.

i had fun at tire kindom after what they tried passing off to me as an allignment on my mark VIII. it almost came down to the fat slob manager getting punched in the mouth. i finally got my money back and took it to ford and got a perfect allignment done in 1 hour after 2 diff tech's and 3 tries at tire kingdom.

The car was at one time my fathers and he went for an alignment at tire kingdom and it turned out the car actually needed front end work.

Sounds like a bad experience/shop. Glad you got it resolved, but for reference, about 5 years ago I had Discount Tires put new wheels and tires on my Mustang. I wanted the widest rears I could fit; the guy suggested something like 275 55.... I told him I don't want them if they are going to rub, he assured me they wouldn't. Well, I got them installed and got about 2 blocks away. Sure enough they rubbed. Took it back, they guy put on some 245 something no problem. Since he had recommended them and was wrong about it he didn't give me any problems.

Speaking of alignments, I attempted to have one done this week after I had done all the front end work. I went to the local tire shop where I had been ripped off before. (its the only "tire" shop on island) I talked to the manager/owner/tech about the alignment. I wanted to know what kind of machine he was going to use and how he would do the work. He told me "don't worry about what I'm gonna do, just worry about what you're gonna do for the 4 HOURS it will be in the shop". Then he took me into the shop to check out the machine... Holy crap was this thing ancient! It had to be 35 years old! I'm only 28 for gods sake! I put all the stuff he said behind me, and the age of the machine, and asked how much. He told me it was 180.00 and I nearly fell over. I have'nt been out of the business for that long, (possibly 3 years) and it was only 80.00 at the Chrysler dealership I worked at. I did'nt even speak another word. I walked away from the guy and got in my car. I would rather pay the 150.00 it costs me to put my car on the ferry and take it to the dealer than pay that man!

Sorry to rant but I have never had to deal with such BS in my with auto repair in my life. You guys think you got it bad at Tire Kingdom? Ha!

Tire Kingdom did a 'full inspection' of my car - even though i specifically told them to just change the tire. (i was in a hurry and didn't care to be further screwed with their 'scare tactics')

Anyway, told me i needed a full service including trans flush! (plugs 1 month old, fuel filter, oil and filter were done day previous, brake fluid 3 months old and clean, trans fluid changed one month prior etc.)

Just another store added to the boycott list.

Im gonna get one of those alignment tools like billcu has - further reduce the chance of being shafted.

Lol. Post the pics in this thread jamie. That was a crazy alignment job... Can't believe they tried to 'pass that off' Didn't the front wheels rub the fender liners? Lol... Kid must have had 'wonky eyes'

I don't understand. If a guy wants tires that are rated for 300MPH why not sell them to him?
