tire size question

Would there be any issues running 255/50R16 tires on the factory 10 spoke Octa-stars? Just need them as a temporary thing for a few months when overtime starts back up and I can get new rubber for them.

For clarification, 10 spokes have 10 spokes, and a swirl pattern and come chrome or painted. Made for right and left side patterns,, and have small 2.75" or so centercaps.
Octastars have 12 spokes and are for either side and have 8" or so centercaps.

255 50R 16's are about 3" shy from the stock 225 60R 16's height. Overall diameter would be way smaller. Bottom line is you could probably run them but more than just fuel mileage would suffer.

225 60's are much more common, and I'm sure you could pick up a used pair pretty cheap.

sorry, was exhausted when I posted. I have the 12 spoke, non directional wheels in chrome.

I need the car on the road NOW. The 4 tires on it got slashed (my own fault for not paying attention, and no vandalism), and I can't get replacements for it until my next big paycheck (which is next month). Fuel economy is not an issue seeing I live only 6 miles from work, and have to drive through 45 MPH back roads to get there.

Was mostly concerned with rubbing or interference since they are a wider tire.

I run 255-50-16 in the Mickey Thompson drag radials on the back with my stock 16" wheels. They "dish" a little more because of the size but they work fine. If you were to go any wider than 255, only then would you need a wider wheel. 255s are fine though in my opinion.

I compared these to my stock tire size and they are not much different. I would say far less than 3" in my case and my speedo according to my gps is only off by about 1.8 mph at freeway speeds. Not too shabby.

new tires are on the "to-do" list, but anyone that knows what I have been working on knows that they have not really been a priority. Was hoping to use the ones that where on it until after I got it inspected, but thanks to my own stupidity, well.....

I will use the 255's until next big payday, and then get proper size tires on it.

Thanks for all your help.

ooooo, sounds nice jay. Still can't do anything til payday. I know liz is planning on going up to Warrenton this weekend. Hmmmmm.

I would not trust the vert to go on a road trip right now. I have a coolant leak that I can't seem to track down. It is barely a drip, but still....... Also needs a tuneup and inspection. Both are overdue >.<
