I got a little free time this past friday night and took the 98 LSC to the local 1/8th mile track.
I go to the track and went thru tech.
I head to the lanes to get a couple of "hot passes" so I can verify how much cooling the car down helps.
first pass ECT 200/ACT 108/Air Temp 82/Humidity 84/Baro 30.09/ DA 1629ft
10.06 @ 71.5
second pass (round robin) ECT 200/ACT 112/Air Temp 82/Humidity 84/Baro 30.09/DA 1629
10.04 @ 71.8
now that I have some consistant data, I head to the pit area and park the car.
Game Plan: open hood, leave car for 1 hour.
Knowing that the alarm hood pin needs to be unplugged so I can arm the alarm with the hood open, I move to the passenger side of the car and unplug the harness for the alarm hood pin.
I leave the car and go walk thru the pits, and over to the starting line to watch some cars run.
1 hour later I return to the car close the hood.
looking the Xcal - ECT 188/ACT 80
Conditions are the same as before Air Temp 82/Humidty 84/Baro 30.09/ DA 1629
Since both ACT and ECT are a solid 20 degree's cooler than the previous passes and the weather conditions were the same, I knew I had a good shot at seeing exacty what a 1 hour cool down was going to net with the new car.
I start the car and head to the lanes, when I tipped into the gas the car stumbled a bit and felt sluggish.. I mentally wrote it off to the car being cold, rather than a problem.
I get to the burn out box and turn off the traction control, when I hit the gas.. the car wouldn't spin the tire..
Confused a turned the traction control back on and hit the gas and it DID spin the tire.. but something just "wasn't happy".
Reluctantly I staged the car
The tree came down and I hit the gas.. and kapoof, sputter, stumble the car OOZES away from the starting line..the "run is blown".
So I continue down the track and hit the first turn off road and go back to the pits.
..a couple of "dry hops" and a "check engine" light confirm "something aint happy".
SO I go back to the pits.. and it dawns on me.. like a TON OF BRICKS.
I AM MY OWN WORST ENEMY *haha*
When I attemped to unplug the alarm hood pin, like a NOOBIE DUMBASS I unplugged my MAF
*shakes head in embarrassment*
SO I plug the maf back in and head back to the lanes
ECT 200/ACT 110/Air Temp 82/Humidity 82/Baro 30.09/ {dont have the DA numbers yet)
9.97@72.1 on a hot "round robin pass"!
I'm both disapointed in myself.. but happy with the cars performance.
Knowing there is atleast .07 or as much as .1 to be had when I get a good "cooled down run with the MAF PLUGGED IN"..haha
all in all it was a good night!
I really REAALLY wanted to put the car in the Jackpot race, with back to back 10.06 and 10.04 the car would have done very well in Eliminations.
I had no more times, for another cool down.. or eliminations, so I took my 9 second timeslip and headed home.
That was my initial goal.. GET THE CAR OUT OF THE 10's!
I almost hit that goal on the first pass.. only missed by .06!
