Town Car Engine

since the 4.6 in the 1998+ towncars is the modular engine (bear with me if i'm wrong, been a GM guy), it's likely that i can swap heads, etc. with a mustange enging, correct? i'd like to be able to pump up the power in the TC, yet stay reliable. are the computers different, i found a tuner for the TC, and i assume i might be able to boost the power considerably within safe limits if i combine that with a SAFC-II setup.

again, i'm new to the ford scene, but am wondering what my options are with a towncar.

also, if you could recommend what year is best for a towncar 98+, considering common problems, etc., it would be appreciated. thanks,

Vita

RE: Town Car Engine

99+ PI heads should fit on the 98+ if I’m correct. It's been a while since I left the panther scene.

Best advice is to get a 99-2000 Cartier edition; it comes stock with dual exhaust, different converter, and 3.27’s.

Not to mention great leather, sunroof, and more interior options.

thanks for the info.

i was wondering about a head swap. i'm guessing "panther" is the chassis the TC is on, since i've seen the term used here and there in the past few days.

also, is this the same block used in the cobra, like i said i know next to nothing about ford, but i assume the fact that it is a "modular" block, meaning they can use it across multiple platforms, etc., that it's likely that i could do a re-build with the cobra engine and would just have to deal with the tuning from there. it's a big car, and it'd be nice to have the extra oomph when i need it!

right now i drive a saturn ion red line, and she's quick, but too tempting to beast around in and would like a car that inspires relaxed driving, yet would still like to have some balls for when it counts. thanks.

RE: Town Car Engine

The 2003 Cobra has a cast iron block w/32Valves (I think the TC is aluminum, but not sure, if it was the heads, or the block. However, I know the mark is all aluminum 4.6L 32V). Nevertheless, the TC is more like the GT 16 Valves except for the PI heads, which gives the GT a bit more power. Ask about the 99+ heads. The panther platform is the Crown vic, Grand Marquies, and TC from 92+.

I'm sorry myy info is somewhat rusty, but have a look at www.crownvic.net there is buckets load of info there.
