Trans question???

I have two questions about my trans. First off car has 151,000 miles. My first question is why does my trans take about 2-4 seconds to get into gear. When I shift from "R" to "D" there is a long pause before it goes into gear? 2nd question, When I shift out of "P" into "R" the rpm rise up to about 1500 or so then the car shifts hard into gear. That does not happen all the time but it does happen mostly when the car is cold. Thanks

The shift delay is typical for a stock tranny, though 2-4 seconds seems a little long. Your valve body might be on it's way out. I would drain and refill the fluid. It is the best 1st option to do. If that doesn't work, look for further assistance on the board.

As for the high rpm rise, that is typical of cold start ups. The engine runs rich until it is warmed up.

RE: Trans question???

If your RPMS rise when the car is in idle in erratic patterns that is usually a sign of a failing IAC (idle air control valve).
