Transmission problems 2004 ls

2004 ls w/3.9 v8 and 5 speed automatic w/manual shift capability.123000 miles.Driving my wifes LS to my mother's funeral yesterday and as we were driving, I felt the trans trying to shift in/out. It would fall out of gear then back in. The car would really jolt when it fell back in gear.When we left to go to the graveside it got to the point that it would only engage in 2nd gear. I've been told that the servo pack in the trans on these cars give problems alot.Just wondering if you could give me some insight into what to expect when I get this to my transmission service mechanic. Thanks

i had similar problems with my 03.....the dealer ended up putting a new transmission...transmissions on the cars suck...one problem is ford had the wrong fluid in them from the factory and an upgrade was need those who didn't get the upgrade have tranny problems....mine let go at 57000 miles

+1 for a bad trans. Sounds to me like it was dis-engaging or neutraling out, and the RPM's would rise so it slammed when it would pop back into gear. You could have a low fluid issue, but checking it is a pain. I would find an independent shop, the dealer will rip you another one.
