Hey all,

First thinks for the links on my other post. I read the FAQ about the 1-2 pinion and how it should be replaced if your feeling a studder when going from 1st to 2nd. However I think my problem is in 3rd to 4th. Would replaceing that piece help me at all?

Thanks

the shudder is usually from the tranny fluid breaking down.

You should change the 1-2 piston, as well as do "jerry's mod" as shown on www.tccoa.com, and change to mercon V fluid. That will help your tranny live longer. But if you already have the shudder, there is a chance your torque converter is already damaged, so you might need a new torque converter to fix it.

the deteriorated fluid causes this shudder (its from the Torque converter). Go buy 13 quarts of MERCON V ($2.50 ea) and a new tranny filter (about $15 I think). Drop/clean out the pan + magnet and drain the TC through the plug / access hole at the front of the trans bellhousing area. Refill with as much as you take out - check level a few times, and your shudder should go away soon after
