vibration in drive and reverse?

Any time I first put the 96 Mark VIII tranny into reverse or drive I feel a vibration throughout the car. It doesn't happen in park and I can't feel it while driving, any ideas?

It might be the start if the IAC valve starting to act up, have you tried a Seafoam treatment?

I was thinking along the same lines, what does your RPMs do when you put it in gear? They might be dropping the RPMs too low causing the car to studder. My Cougar does it on occasion. Might be time for another IAC since I put a used one in around 140k.

Thought from the far side...
when I first started working with the SCT stuff I screwed up some of the TC lock up settings and the car would shudder when shifting from neutral to reverse and from neutral to drive.

Have you messed with any of the torque convertor lock up schedule?
If so.. you might have one of the lock scalars set too low or the unlock scalars set too high.

The tune on the car is currently back to stock. The IAC definitely needs to be replaced as it hangs a lot, like if I rev the car it goes back down very slowly. But since it's in a terrible position by the throttle body I will deal with it until it starts stalling out on me.

If your idle RPMs are hanging while you put it in gear, then that's not a good thing... and could easily be damaging your trans.

Think.. "neutral drop" from 1500 RPMS... that cant be good.

IAC may be a contributing factor in this issue might as well dive into it and rule it out of the equation...

On my old 95 box, I had a shudder when giving the car gas.. in reverse.

It was one of the plastic check balls getting stuck in it's bore.. and not allowing enough fluid to get past it causing the clutches to slip and shudder...

you might have something like that happening as well... of course this was a 360,000 mile 95 tranny I'm talking about.
