Video conversion/compression

We have a Kodak digital camera that also takes digital movies. The movies are *.MOV format in the Kodak software.

Does anyone know how to convert these to a Windows Media Player recognizable format and compress them to a reasonable size for posting on the web?

RE: Video conversion/compression

You're gonna need some type of video editing software. Pinnacle and Ulead make some inexpensive options. You can probably download a trial that will do what you want. You may also be able to purchase Quicktime Pro and output something WMP recognizes.

I'd try searching download.com as well.

On the other hand, you could just tell everyone to download Quicktime. Most people have QT, but I can't stand it myself, it tries to take over your settings even if you tell it not to start when windows starts. It also tries to take over your file associations. For those reasons, I stay away from QT as much as possible.

I think if you are using Windows XP and have kept the updates current, that Windows Movie Maker will import and do what you want. If not, what Kale suggests is prob. best. Also if you have added a DVD recorder to your computer, they usually come with a lite version of either Roxio EZ DVD Creator or another version of DVD importing/burning software that should do it.

WMM won't import .mov files. That was the first thing I tried. :)
