Went to look at a Focus last night . . .

Rene

Lincoln Lady
. . . and came home with a 2004 VW Golf GLS. How did that happen???
It has: sunrooof, Monsoon stereo (cd) system, heated front seats, premium wheels, and only 16,000 miles. This is a very different vehicle for me, as I have always owned Fords, with the exception of a 1984 Toyopet Camry beater car. Hopefully, this is the start of "no more beaters"!

I don't know Rene, I just can't picture you in anything other than the Mark VIII, let alone just any Ford. :D

Maybe you can de-badge it and put a big blue oval on it. :big-grin:

I joked with Brad after we got home about changing the badges.
The Focus I drove 1-1/2 hours to see sold 5 minutes before I got there!

Focus is not the best car... and it has one of the most terrible resale values...

I think Jeremis sig other has a GTI...

I have always been a bit weary of VWs they always seem in the bottom pack when it coms to reliability. Hope yours stays nice and solid with 16k miles you really don't have much to worry about though.

I've had 4 VW's all back in the 80's. No problems with any of them, but I never got 100k on them before I sold them.

The blowhard salesman actually knocked this car's price down to the same as the Focus I went to see, and this was more car for the money, and 11K less miles. It has a very solid feel, and seems very well-made.

If it starts costing me too much in maintenance, I can always trade it in later. With the price discounted, better resale than the Focus, and no more miles than I drive, I should stay ahead as far as value goes.

The VW brand is good in my opinion. I worked as a parts manager at a VW dealership for about 3 months and could see that they have a good product. You can do alot with those golfs.

I didn't trade the Mark for it; it replaces my old winter-heap/dog-hauler.

I wanted something with a rear hatch and four doors, to make hauling the dog easier. I was getting tired of hairy back seats, and wanted a cargo area for the livestock. Now we have a German car to haul our Rottweiler around in! She can help out as my "interactive alarm system" when installed in the car.

I'm still getting "cute car" comments from the people at work ;)

Rene, that is so not you. ;) But I understand the need for a beater, so your intentions are good. Cute car, hee hee.

It's quite a change from the '92 Crown Vic, but I actually like it more than I thought I would.

Sure makes the Mark feel plush and powerful :D
