Wheel/Tire weights

I searched the forum and found the following...

Stock rims = 21 pounds
Stock rim + tire = 47.2 pounds
Laceyspoke(snowflake)rim + tire = 37 pounds

I weighed a stock painted 10-spoke at just under 21 pounds. That pretty much confirms the weight posted. Most stock size street tires appear to weigh 26-28 pounds. The next time I have my wheels off at the shop, I'm going to make a point and weigh the combo of the chrome 10 spoke with tires.

A little math implies the snowflakes weigh in at an anemic 11 pounds! Can anyone verify this??? ::roll::

We need to start a weight database for all kinds of parts, but especially wheels/tires. It's just a matter of remembering to do so when you have the work underway. ;)

RE: Wheel/Tire weights

I just weighed a snowflake with a cheap digital bathroom scale. I subtracted my weight while holding the wheel. I got 16 pounds.

RE: Wheel/Tire weights

A couple of years ago, someone posted that using snowflakes saved
40lb. I've never verified this, however.
