won't start!!

Hey guys I'm hoping some people have had this problem and know where I should start. I backed my car (a 93' w/130k) into a spot and all was fine...when I came back to leave, it wouldn't start. It acts just like the neutral safety switch is activated or something.I messed with the shifter and battery cables but haven't had time to do anythig else yet.The cables are in great shape and it's got a 3 month old Optima red top battery. I've never had ANY issues with it starting. I can hear the second from the front(in the engine bay box) relay clickin' ???? Also does anyone have a picture of a fuse box map? I don't have a owners manual. Thanks guys! Dave

Does it crank over or just click?

Have you tried starting it with it in the Neutral position?

It doesn't even really click like usual... just that relay. you can only hear it with the door and hood open.OK I just checked and noit won't start in nuetral either. I'm gonna try jumpin' it

If is just clicking then it sounds like something drained your battery. If so, have you tried to jump it or check the voltage on the battery?

No... it's not that kind of click...no starter noise at all. just the sound of that relay. It acts like they do when you don't have the shifter all the way in park. Thanks!

Could be a dead starter too.

If you have a volt meter put it on the battery and see what happens when you try to start it. If nothing happens it could be things like the MLPS (neutral safety switch) or a broken/loose starter/battery cable. Of course your ignition switch could be to blame as well.

If the voltage drops and nothing happens you most likely have a problem with your starter and it will need to be replaced.

I put my money on the starter solenoid.

Put the car on jackstands removing the passenger side wheel for easier access to the starter. Examine the small wire going to the solenoid that should just be a spade type terminal. Using a voltmeter, check for +12VDC at the solenoid wire while you have a helper turn the ignition switch to start. If you have power there the starter solenoid is toast. Usually they fail intermittently and sometimes they will start with a smack of a hammer - sometimes thay just die never to revive again.

Thanks guys, I still haven't had time to look at it much but the first thing tomorrow I'll check the starter solenoid.that is one thing I was thinkin' but just thought it was wierd that it never gave me any kind of trouble before and it doesn't click at the solenoid.A bad ground somewhere seems likely too.I really need to know what all the relays and fuses are too.I guess I'll look at some junkyards for a owners manual. I'll keep you informed. I need it runnin' because I've got some brand new kumho ecsta 245 50 and 255 55 's' for it! Hope to get footage of the demise of the 235 60s' on the back too!!

Did you look at the "STICKY" at the top of the Electrical Forum? There's a link to the Maint. Manuals for most ANY car/Lt truck.

Look through the electrical forum, I just posted diagrams for the '93 the other day.

Well, I finally got time and weather conditions to work on it and sure enough a nice whack with a hammer on the solenoid and she fired right up! Thanks for all your help guys this website and you guys are awsome!! Dave Stines
