Yahoo/Google Gurus in here please

i've been using avast for the past 3 years, it's free, updates itself daily, and i've never had a problem. May not fix your current problem, but in the future it's better than throwing money at it with norton or whatnot.

I went to the well as I have spent too many sleepless nights in the past so I did the remote control "you fix it". It was caused by a program that was in the drivers mbamswissarmy.sys and wdmaud.sys. I was told that it is passed along in music files.

I have Norton 360. As I've had Norton products in the past, it ends up being FREE. Just watch for sales at Office Depot and/or Staples. I have to pay, but get it refunded. It's all mostly automated and a fairly good back-up program too.

Well, I guess it isn't FREE as I have to pay the Maryland Sales Tax.

I thought Norton was giving me protection

Well there's your problem! :)

use a corporate version of Symantec Antivirus and Symantec Client Firewall on the laptops and that thing somehow made it through.

I don't like Symantec either because, just like Norton, its focused on VIRUS stuff vs. malware, spam, bots, keyloggers, etc...

Followup: I ran Malware bytes and Defender and Norton, deleted all my cookies and still have the same senario.

Like someone else said...its not that easy.

Let me guess....you use LimeWire?

Get SpyBot from the link I provided in my other post. Then make sure you allow it to run SpyBot Resident. This side program will ALWAYS be running and it will give you the option to allow or prevent registry type edits before they happen.

And just a heads up....there are advertisements EVERYWHERE that will edit your registry, for example, the pop-up program used for advertisements on this site try to edit/add stuff to my reg. So far its only been the SuperCoupe Performance one, and denying the entry still lets the ad window show at the top of the page.
