Same here, had shag carpet in the 70s.

Had? SILL HAVE!..sometimes when I need tip money for the crouton-delivery guy, we both look through my carpet for some small bills.
At least when the cat throws up it self-cleans (blends in)
My dog was dragging his butt on the rug and got lost....it was easy to find him...I just followed the rut.
if I dont trim my toe nails, I get "hung up" walking down the hallway.
To refresh the "nap", I get the leaf blower out. If that doesn't work, I grab my rake.
Dyson vacuums wont warranty their products for use in my house.
I had Stanley Steamer come out and shampoo my rugs...it took 7 days to dry.
