Battery Time

Wifes 95 needed gas, so I also went and got a new battery for the 94. My local dealer, Monaco Ford, sold me one for $129. Beats the auto store prices. Got to keep the 94 OEM.95 @ Monaco.jpgBattery 94.jpg

Just an FYI if there is a Rural King in your area they have group 65 batteries with 850 CCA for 74.99. These are made by Exide the last few Motorcraft I bought were made by Johnson Control in Mexico.

I had to look, and couldn't find any china written on the battery, or made in the USA. As long as it works, I'm good with it.

I typically go to Costco when I need batteries. Walmart would be my 2nd choice.

JP made it 1/2 way across the country with no alternator, he would just drive from walmart to walmart exchanging the battery.

Neither. Just a car battery. If you buy a 60mo battery replace it in 3 years, if you buy a 72mo replace it 4 years you’ll be golden and never have an issue.

I think Costco has the Interstate label now vs their Kirkland one. It's been a while since I needed to replace a battery. Last one I had the dealer do while the Flex was in for service, had a coupon and a good chuck of change in my Ford owner rewards account so basically came out me owing nothing for it. With my CPO Escape they put a new one in before I took ownership because it sat dead on the lot.

All the "brands" are basically the same. There are slight differences in the internal design of the plates, the amount of lead, etc. You do get what you pay for. Paying extra for an AGM or Gel is pretty much as waste of money for a daily driver. The big factors in how long a battery lasts is your driving habits. People will be very abusive to a battery and then blame the brand. If you let your car sit for extended periods like weekly airport parking or make lots of short trips your battery will not last. It is also worth it to regularly use a maintainer or give it a proper charge a few times a year.

I'd add to my maintence list, check water in battery. I can't remember the last time I checked on any of my cars until this year. A battery that came with a car, that worked great until I brought it in for the winter, took over 1/2 qt of water. It would charge up ok, but the next day 10.2 volts.

Just washed wife's 95 and I checked all the levels, and wouldn't you know it, battery took a little over a cup of water.

I got a new tester and I will test it. I don't know where the battery came from, from one or the cars I've had, but it has a sticker on it 10/13. Almost 5 years, must be a good one. all the plates were still covered with liquid.

Well beerdog made me go test the bat. It's an AutoCraft Gold. 850 CCA, but tester says it's only got 650, but test good. So I start it up, and alt bearing a bit noisy, but putting out 14.5 volts. I have a new alt, and belt on the shelf, and dealer has plenty more batteries. This one will make a good back up. OK it's on the list. Love these cars, keeps you in the poor house.
Thinking again, battery 11" X 7 1/2". 1 cup of water doesn't seem a lot, brings level up 1/16" - 1/8" is my guess.
