No heat to floor or other vents this AM. Fan blows cold air & I got the 1249 code. Any input from others that did the replacement would be appreciated.

Well, this should be interesting.

I have no experience with the Blend doors, even on the Marks, but I know them to be a trouble spot. I wonder how much the Continental has in common. I'll be following your progress with great interest.

Here are a couple very good threads pertaining to the blend door on the Mark VIII. No doubt there will be differences, but you may find some valuable information here

Tixer, I've never been good at write-ups but I'll give it a go. From what I can gather, I need to pull the glove box, panel below it and the console. The actuator is to the right of the stereo.

No need to make it a write up if you aren't in the mood, but pictures interspersed with frustrated ramblings are just as good. We'll all offer our best "armchair advice" from the sidelines..

Did some driveway troubleshooting today after a drive to warm it up.

The doors are functioning but when in auto and temp set to 90*, It blows on the floor, hot - cold - hot = cold then stays stuck to blowing cold air.

I think I should look for a vacuum leak first.

Removed 3 phillips head screws on panel below steering column.

Removed said panel.

Accessed screw on small panel right of steering column.

Pulled surrounding panel at stereo / EATC controls.

Pulled stereo and EATC.

All vacuum lines are tight and from what little I can see and feel, are tight and pliable.

Still no access to blend door actuator. PITA.

:banghead:What would tell the EATC to go hot to cold and hot to cold again while continually blowing at the floor vents?

I went out and warmed it up to take a video of what it's doing. All I did was turn the ac to max and after awhile, revved it a few times.

It then over-heated. Moved all of my work stuff to the truck for next weeks commute.

You all know the bummer feeling that I presently have.....

And the reason it overheated was that I pulled the dum bass move of deciding to check the coolant and run it with the reservoir cap off.

After reading more I found out what that little plug in the cross-over tube is for.

I did the cross-over fill and t-stat dump tonight and replaced a gallon and a half of air.

I'll do it again tomorrow night and will be back to needing to fix the original problem.

The HVAC system now functions normal. No pics as I took it to a friend to repair and he had another mechanic that is great with dash work help. He replaced the actuator from the passenger side by unbolting the duct plenum and moving it to install the actuator motor. The Motorcraft part was $40 from Rock Auto and the 2 mechanics cost me $160 total for labor.

No dash rattles and all is good. Now I can take my truck to him for the rear main seal replacement.
