Forum Upgrade

Steve, what OS and browser version? I would say perhaps there are updates for Windows and/or IE you need, but the one netbook I use in the garage definitely is NOT up to date? I'll have to check my other PC but all my IOS platforms are updated.

Could it possibly be a security level setting in the browser?

sounds to me like you used the back browser button and didn't refresh. That's what it would do if u did that.
nope, also it is inconsistent, some threads it works, others it did not. now i am on my mack book air and safari and it works, i guess if i wait long enough it will jump to the right post.

I have observed that behavior specifically.. It seems to be more prevalent in threads with lots of images. I think it loads the entire thread first, then jumps you to the last post. If it is slow to load, you end up waiting. (or you can do like I do, and just get impatient and scroll down to where you want to be.)

For the record, I observed this behavior before the upgrade as well. I assumed that not a lot could be done, so I ignore it. :)

I use the Opera browser on every computer I move between on a given day, and other than that specific problem, the "first unread" button has been working for me.

I get the random odd glitch like that. Since my computer is crap, I just don't say anything unless I'm really confused or think it may be an upgrade issue. But yeah, most things I've noticed are very random.

yup, that is why i waited a while to see how often it happens. not too often, but often enough for me to take notice. i have been reading the forum the same way for years. show the threads with new post, then click on that little down arrow icon to go to the first new post. after i read what i want to read i mark all the forums read.

Interesting, i was on my mac book air most of the day and things were working as they should. Now 6 hr later i am on my PC win 7 with IE 10, and it was not jumping to the first unread post, but older post from today.

The issue appears to be with IE. I was on my work laptop today and used firefox, no issues. Now on my home PC if i use Chrome, no issues, but with IE it does not go down to the first unread post. So conclusion is don't use IE unless there is some setting i am missing that will cause this issue.

IE is not recommended for many reasons

LOL... sounds like our IT department. We have a couple web apps that do not work on IE even though they were originally developed for it. Safari, FireFox or Chrome all work well with them.

Just the opposite in work, we have to keep an old ver of IE for company apps. If you try to use something else it won't let you in. So at work I am stuck with IE 8
I will continue to avoid using IE with the site and report if the error does pop up again, but i doubt it.

Do we have to have the ads on the right like this?

Also, is there something wrong with the text where it says Threads Last Post?

Our sponsoring vendors are an important part of our community and help support the website and forums. The sidebar ads are viewable or hidden by a user's usergroup status.

Your combination of screen resolution and font display is what is making the text run together. Viewing on a higher screen resolution and/or in a smaller font display will display the text correctly.

Thanks JP.

I know the vendors are important, I do support them. The ads used to be up on top, but now they use up the right third of the screen, even when you scroll down and there are no ads.

How do I change my user group status to change this?

I like to max out the size of my text because my monitor sits on my coffee table past my feet when I recline in my recliner.

We have been implementing available new aspects of the vBulletin upgrade and the sidebar ads was one of the changes. There may still be changes in the future but for now the intent is to have ads for our sponsors display there.

There are also different horizontal banner ads above the Navigation Bar up top. They used to be in a random rotation on every page but now they are fixed according to the forum being viewed.

How do I change my user group status to change this?
Currently, the sidebar ads are intended to be displayed for non-paying users. Mike P. set up the code for this but I do not fully understand the variable being used to differentiate the usergroup. I too see the ads on the 1st page of the forums. I suspect it is because your primary usergroup is "Super Moderator" and not "Member". I believe there may be a way to fix this and I will look into it. The change may mean you would have another usergroup icon displayed with your username?

That's exactly what I thought when I saw your screenshot. :D
