DOHC MARK VIII

This is where I got tires and any service they need, plus oil changes when I didnt feel like fooling with them. The mechanics were pulling a gas tank and spilled fuel ignited, no one was seriosly injured but a couple of mechanics clothes caught fire. This service center was only about 1 mile from my house :(
You need to take advantage of the Fire Sale that will be going on there today. :)

I personally find all of your comments thus far extremely offensive. You should be ashamed of yourselves -- THAT is NOT a FUNNY situation by any means. I know first hand what it is like to watch my business burn down. That is the livelihood of the owners AND the employees who have now lost their income.

Shame, shame, shame.

why don't we have an eyes-rolling smilie?

I thought the comments were pretty funny myself. Sure it sucks if your business (or home or car, for that matter) burns down, but that's what insurance is for. I wouldn't dream of owning an uninsured business, or living in an uninsured home (even if it's an apartment). ##### happens, the only thing you can do is prepare for it.

Just be thankful that nobody was hurt and chalk it up to a lesson on proper procedures when dealing with gas fumes.

Depends on the insurance, but you're right, usually it doesn't cover lost income due to the fire, or lost business after the fire resulting from people going elsewhere and liking them better.

It might very well be a franchise. Most goodyear outlets are franchises, some some poor guy probably owns what is now a smoldering pile of ash and might not be able to afford to rebuild.

Insurance. it totally depends on what coverage he had. If he had good fire insurance it will cover everything including loss of business and expenses during rebuild. That insuance is not cheap. Many small business owners buy the cheapest insurance they can to fulfill lease obligatins, franchis obligations, etc. because of the cost.

I wish that would happen to my Burger King.

Could be worse. The bk franchisee here in chicago, ameriking, owns all BK in chicago. And are in bankruptcy....

Alot of changes in the last year with insurance premuims, state regs, smopking bans, etc etc. Add that to alot of people losing alot of money, very little growth in units and only low grade but cheap managemnt being hired .....and the quick serve segment isnt doing so hot.

Yes, it is Goodyear, but it takes time to rebuild. The employees are now jobless, the owner(s) are incomeless, etc. Plus,it takes time for the insurance to pay...it doesn't happen overnight. There has to be an investigation that it wasn't intentionally set and that it was not insurance fraud. Maybe the owners didn't own the building...and the actual owner doesn't want to rebuild. That's what happened to my family's busienss...he didn't want to rebuild, so we lost our business. Long story....anyway, just thought people making fun of a business going up in flames was pitiful. I hope it NEVER happens to them....maybe if it does, I'll make fun of everything they've lost.

Actually, I won't. It's rude.

Scott,
It has acually happened to me before and I had a tuff time of it.
After it was all over I acually made money on the deal, and got a brand new remodeled store.
No I did not set the fire,It was the hood cleaners not doing there job.

I don't really think anyone here wishes harm on anyone else's business .
I think they were just having fun with the picture.

Fortunately the guy owns 2 or 3 Goodyear service centers and 3 Parts Plus stores. Oil changes and minor repairs are being performed in a large warehouse behind the Parts Plus, adjacent to the burned Goodyear. The employees of that shop have been clearing debris, helping the parts store or have been working at the other Goodyear or Parts Plus locations. The guy will rebuild and will probably make out fine in the long run. So no one seems to be in that bad of shape over this whole deal, they could of had it a lot worse.
I think inexperience had a big part in this, alot of younger guys work there. One of the better mechanics recently left and started his own shop,he owns two Mark VIII's!
