Yeah that first car of mine was a real dog 1975 Olds Cutlass W30.I paid a whole $2500.00 for it back in 1987. The car is now worth $15000.00 .If I only knew then what I know now.

I received my renewal from State Auto the other day, and it was significantly higher - increase of over $1k since 2016. No events to cause the increase from Wendy and I, and the explanation given was due to an increase in claims in GA.

I've been shopping around, and Allstate went to Hagerty to quote / insure The Mark - guaranteed value $50k. They came in at $1160 annually, and another $60 for Hagerty Plus (towing).

Currently, State Auto has me at $75k Stated Value - $609 annually. Renewal has me at $832.

I have State Auto through BB&T, and they are shopping around for the best deal they can get. Have not heard back in a couple days, so they must be having a hard time achieving my target price.

You say Allstate went to Hagerty for a quote. Did you call Hagerty direct?
I did not call Hagerty directly. The local Allstate I am working with is also a Hagerty agent. BB&T is a agent for like 50 some odd insurance companies like State Auto, in my case. I get what you are saying though.

Do they cover the car for insurance yet?
I believe they do. The quote I received is on Hagerty paper.

I use a broker for regular insurance. Working with Hagerty is cool, they're car people, and never asked for mileage, and they want only 1 picture.

They came back with many questions for me. I had to send them a copy of the appraisal I had done in 2012, and if I go to contract with them, they want multiple photo's - engine bay, trunk, wheels, front bumper, etc.

To compare, I asked for another quote - $25k guaranteed this time. $658 annual + $60 for unlimited flatbed (Hagerty Plus). Probably will go with this. Seems that is the current for-sale asking price for a car with similar mods today. There is no way I would build another from scratch, so at least it would get me into another Mark like it already done.

Done deal with Hagerty. I went to them directly - not through an agent. For those curious or shopping around - $608 annually. $25k guaranteed, $250k/500k/100k, $2500 deductible, no Hagerty plus, 2500 miles annually, locked garage kept, spotless driving record. They do not use appraisals, but go by current market value based upon like vehicles / mods. I have to send them 4 photos - full vehicle, interior, under hood, trunk.

That's great, Mike. Thanks for this information.

I've been contemplating giving them a call about my own Mark. I feel like "regular" insurance won't come close to compensating me in the case of some kind of event..

It won't.

I've long since come to the realization that if you're not making payments on it, it's better to just carry liability and be done with it.

It's chasing fool's gold thinking you'll take any potential payout and find another as good as what you have to buy as a replacement. Plus, I really don't put enough miles on my Mark VIIIs to justify paying any 'agreed value' premiums that I've ever been quoted.

This has always been my strategy too. For some reason, I've carried full coverage on the "new" mark, because it's "super nice." All the while knowing that it's not really serving a function..

Just read Hagerty took MK VIII off their list, but Town Car is still on it. Well insurance cost shouldn't go up on the MK's.
