Been a long time mn12 owner and had about 7 of them now, my favorite was a 97 bird with a 98 mark viii engine..so that kinda turned me on years later when this mark 8 came up.
It is a 98 lsc, has 17in 5 star rims ,red grill and red pinstripes and red calipers, powerstop drilled and slotted rotors and raybestos ceramic pads and brand new calipers, touch screen dvd player sub amp ect... exhaust, cobra cams ,Trac loc,42lb injectors ,90mm lightning mafs and cone filter and currently still working out the tune with losta racing.. it's on it's 2nd test tune and it's still chugging terrible so gonna do a vacuum test and work my way down the chain.might be o2 sensors as it did throw a code f0r 2 days but cleared up but I do have 2 new ones already it's just a pita I heard so I'm scared, lol it's cold out up here in upper michigan.it ran fine on stock tune with the 90mm mafs installed but once the injectors wete in it had a slight chug under load, it seemed to get worse once i installed the tune. Mafs and injectors anre brabd new..any ideas ?
the air ride functions as it should after months of trouble shooting releveling processes . But had to replace nothing thankfully . It would jack up one rear tire and completely lower the other once parked and shut off..
It has 108k miles needs some body work ..both doors have dings and one fender has rust one has a decent dent.i already have 2 good replacement doors, will order fenders soon once I have the doors perfect. Also needs a patch in drivers rocker near the rear tire but other than that she's solid and is in great condition..
Plans are get it looking perfect after the tune is dialed in. Jmod then 410 gears and 1 piece driveshaft.

Welcome!

It sounds like you know these cars inside and out. I'm glad to see another midwesterner around, too!

Well car might be getting sold..
Got bad life news and in sick or arguing with losota racing about a vacuum leak when I've smoke tested it and checked everything over 100x..
So if he can't figure it out in chalking up the loss before he destroys my car with these damn data runs..
Then I'm putting it back to perfect running almost stock condition and selling it and all the parts I got with it..

Welcome, ...

I think?

Don's successfully tuned plenty FN10 cars and has a fine rep. Long and short of it is unless you have data logs that show your stock injector duty cycle above 85% and your stock MAF signal maxed out, you haven't added any 'power'. Likewise, you don't need any bigger MAF or injectors.

You can't just go willy nilly throwing parts at these cars and expect someone to fix it with a tune.

He said it was a simple tune but I guess not..
I planned running e85 that's why I wanted the bigger injectors..
I guess I'm just gonna sell one 42s and xcal now and stick with what I got and what runs well..im happy with it performance .
I guess little by little now the body gets strait.
No hard feeling with Don, I know his work..and he's a good guy..

Well I just am now running the listed mods above but the stock injectors,90mm mafs and superchips tuner and it's running and driving great..so I'm just gonna leave that ,sell off the other stuff and do a cobra intake and 410s..
Now. With the cobra intake swap please educate me if you personally done this mod.
For the egr I plan on cutting the stock tube and running a flexible tube to join them.i know I will have to extend some wires and re route vacuum lines.i will need a different intake too..anything major I'm missing?
Do my fuel rails bolt up onto it no issues? Hood clearance ok? Will my throttle cable be ok.?, I have no problem customing a bracket..new gaskets obviously..ummmm? Anything I'm over looking here ?

Another note: I am considering a dual 62 or 65mm bbk tbody .I'm not expecting some big gains or something just hoping for better throttle response..i loved the feeling of a 75mm on the sohc 4.6 over the 70mm and by far better than stock..
I'm Hoping the 4.6 dohc has similar results with a 62 being a little better throttle response and the 65 being better..with them does the cruise cable and throttle cable hook up to them or would I need to grind the hub down to fit the mark 8 end link? Going to a 65mm dual would it cause diveabity issues ? I know the ecu does a decent job of compensating ..
Lol, fill me in gurus.

If you search for a thread here from DLF on this, it is one of the most comprehensive threads around on installing the 96-98 Cobra intake on an FN10. Are you keeping the IMRC's? Cruise control?

EDIT: Here's the link to DLF's thread... http://www.lincolnsofdistinction.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?32824-Gen-2-Cobra-Intake-Swap&highlight=cobra+intake

Other than the EGR, it is not really that difficult overall. I installed a Cobra intake on my '96 but without the EGR. It's really a lot of minor details and personal preferences that consume most of the time and energy required for this modification. For me, the wiring was the most that needed modified. The vacuum lines were relatively easy using parts from the stock setup. As for the throttle body, bracket and cable; I used a Cobra throttle body and cable and acquired the bracket from another intake project I had laying around.

Another note: I am considering a dual 62 or 65mm bbk tbody .I'm not expecting some big gains or something just hoping for better throttle response...
FWIW, I have not seen that much difference at all in changing throttle bodies on the DOHC, but I don't think that included BBK in particular. Your mileage may vary.

Yes I want to keep my imcr and cruise..
I read that thread but didn't see fuel lines addressed other than a sentence about L brackets so I'm guessing stock lines arnt a direct swap?
I will keep researching this be for I pull the trigger on one..i know the 1st gen to 2nd gen is a little different . I have a 98 so that's what I have to focus on.

I'm pretty sure I used a set of Cobra fuel rails on my project. I used AN adapters at the fuel filter, return line and fuel rails and made up fuel hoses with socketless AN fittings to go from the stock fuel lines in the fender well to the fuel rails in the engine bay.

I haven't done this, but I've read plenty of these threads. :) I feel like the stock lines fit, but it's tight. And you'll end up covering up the fuel pressure test valve in the process, and never be able to use it again.

Lol, that's fine with me...i want to do it with as few mods or hacking stuff up as possible ..
Any issues with my imcrs? I see everyone seems to do something with them at the time of the install but maybe just for performance reasons..my last 32v had no imcrs and I couldn't tell a difference of it over my current engine and I prefer to keep mine.

Well. I ordered accel coils now ..
With my mods and them coils would it still be best to run the stock plugs at stock gap?
Or should I now run a 1 range colder plug?
I'm not worried about how long they last I just want the most out of them possible .
Also, could i now run a larger gap on stock plugs? I've read the accel coils do actually put out more volts by 10-15% so just wondering what my best option would be

Installed my new coilpacks and checked all my spark plugs and all were in great condition and oem..put back on my stock mafs and the cone filter onto that..
Had to get a new belt and tensioner too because with it shifting so high and running so damn well it would chirp the belt at shifts and occasionally it wouldn't settle rite..i actually thought I threw a rod because the belt was causing the pulley to tap the timing cover ..sounded just like a bad rod.
THANK GOD !!!
but it's driving better than it ever has and pulls very very hard for what few things are done to it..im very impressed with it..

I now have 2 goid fenders and doors so hopefully it will be perfect and have a new paint job by fall..
Traded a few parts for some other parts and cash and got almost all I need now..
Just need a little patch panel from a rocker for in front of the rear tire now...

I got on one of my new fenders on and it went very smooth..bottom 2 bolt were rusted pretty bad as well as the fender down there so I ripped it off and then grinded down the bolt heads and made 2 new bolt holes for the new fender. I also removed the sound deadening material inbetween the fender and door because I know it caused it to rust out because of it holding in moisture..i didn't drive it for a few days be for I did the work and it was still soaking wet..
I'm not looking forward to doing the doors..
I haven't even put any work into the new ones yet..
When I have a few spare $ I will be be coming a paid member..
