Help for a friend w/2005 Kia Sorento

Don't have all the details, but she went somewhere they told her bad u-joint, $800.

Symptoms just started yesterday, vibrations on braking. Got new tires on front, as old ones had wear on the inside. Going for a 2nd opinion now, but if anyone has ideas, please let me know, she doesn't have the money for major repairs, and as a woman, seriously, even if we KNOW cars, places will try to take advantage of us.

2nd place says same thing. I did finally get from her that it's a rwd car, so it makes sense, at first she said FWD.

Vibration where? In the brake pedal? In the steering wheel? Sounds like it could be warped rotors but I need a few more details.

The Sorento is AWD, (or could be) if I'm not mistaken.. so it'll have no shortage of U joints..

have 'em do a V8 swap while they're at it.

No, this conversation took forever, she finally told me back tires slip out so I'm like ok RWD ;) She's in FL so couldn't ask how it ran in the snow and was like, when you go really really fast from a stop, which tires squeal? I had a hard enough time figuring out from her what was going on, but it's not the brakes or I'm sure they would've said something when they replaced the tires on the front (wait, wouldn't that make it a FWD then, if those wore on the inside? but the rear are fine?)

Tire wear on the inside of FWD is common enough, but if I had to guess, I would suspect CV joints? A simple u-joint is no where near an $800 repair.

Well, the 2nd guy took it out for a test drive. He actually confirmed the 1st guy, but quoted a much much lower price. So it was a U-joint and some other part she can't remember, and he told her it would be ok to drive as is for a few days (? not sure of exact time frame she was in a rush and she texts wrong things lol) and quoted her like 400 I think for the repair. The 2nd guy sounded very trustworthy. And she had some info going in, so I really hope that fixes her problem and they aren't messing with her. I think she's moving today so it's really hard to get information, but she's like so impressed at how quick you guys came to the rescue with info. :) She thought I was making it up when I told her I'd ask. Thanks!

This is the latest I've found:

"I haven't got my car fixed yet going to cost about 400 or 450 the lowest I found. It is the whole joint piece underneath a carrier something or other and 3 u joints."

If she tells me otherwise, I'll let you know.
