Hi folks

Greetings from Bellevue WA,
My name is Dmitry and I am happy to join the club of proud Lincoln Mark VIII owners. Earlier this month I bought silver 1997 Mark VIII LSC with (this is not a typo) 3200 miles on the odometer. All imaginable options including the phone, everything stock except the battery and 20 yo tires I did not want to ride on.
Long time ago when I lived in Saint Petersburg Russia I remember passing parked Mark VIII every now and then and I'd often stop and marvel at the uncompromising beauty of this car. Always wanted to drive one, never hoped to get one with such a low mileage. This car I bought in Ohio was owned by old lady who broke her hip and could not get in and out comfortably. The car was mostly garaged until she died and then her daughter offered it for eBay motors auction.
I hope this car has a lot of life still left in it, I know that spare parts are getting harder to get and I am not a mechanic myself.
The only thing I need to fix right now seems to be 10 disc changer in the trunk. It seems to be never used yet head radio unit displays NO DJ when I press CD button, seems it can't detect the changer.
Might need to ask around later, maybe someone wants to sell working unit.

Hope to make friends here.

Cheers,

Dmitry

Hi ONLYTONY, thank you for reply. Nothing happens when I press eject button, as if the unit is dead or unpowered. Cosmetically it's in a like new condition but I can't even tell if the cartridge has ANY discs in it. I verified that harness is connected and it makes healthy click on re-connection. Then I took the changer out to verify part number and try to find compatible unit.
This morning I also thought about checking the assigned fuse although according to the schema the fuse controls both changer and amplifier (whatever that is). Everything else except the changer seems to be working fine.

There might be a disc out of place. The Click when powered up sounds like you have power. I have the player in 2 cars, and they work, then they don't. I've had a unit apart, and everything seemed ok. Lubed what needed it, and same thing, works for awhile. The unit sits above a hot muffler for about 20 years, surprised they work at all. I take the cartridge out, slide the discs in and out of the slots, and they start working again. The mechanism is mounted on some really soft bushings. One out of place might jam the mech. On the right side of the cart, there's a slide that should be lubed. It moves whenever a disc changes.

Thank you Tony. By "click" I meant to say that the harness is firmly connected. The unit appears to be off, radio does not detect it. Since I already disconnected it I might follow your recommendation and open/lube it. The era of CD-s is almost over but I'd want to fix it anyway.

Welcome, Dmitry! And thanks for becoming a member!

That car is a heck of a great find. I hope it's in as good of shape as the odometer leads me to believe. :)

As for that changer of yours, it's manufactured by Sony, but most of the internals are plastic. Even if "new," it's still 20 years old now. It's very possible that some of the internals have broken. When mine was failing, disconnecting and reconnecting that harness would occasionally bring it back, but it sounds like you tried that already.
