Hybrid mkz fuel mileage

Just got back from a couple of days up to PA and according to the in car Average MPG meter (or lie-a-meter) I got the best mileage since buying the car. Just turned 23,000 so maybe just getting the engine broke in. Remember it a hybrid so the engine doesn't have the same mileage as the car! (Wish the car had an engine hour-meter like my 250 does) ANYWAY, got 39.7 MPG according to the gauges that are provided on the Z. Surprising too, is the fact that it looks to me like I get BETTER fuel mileage using CRUISE CONTROL than I do with the foot feed. I have never before seen that in any vehicle I've owned!! Also first time I've been getting better numbers on the highway than around the 'burbs.

Oh, more info: I wasn't going 45MPH either...Interstate running 70-72.

How 'bout you other Z owners listing what you are seeing with your car? BTW, this is 4-6 MPG BETTER that I was getting with the Passat diesel!!!!

You should use a web sight or app like Fuelly to calculate your MPG, I think a lot of the car MPG use a rolling average over time.

Yup, you are correct. At last fill-up I restarted that time/distance/fuel calculator back to zero. That was the night before I left for my trip. This car only has a 12.5 gal tank! I still have just over 1/4 tank...but I didn't check miles driven yet and I'm too tired to go out and look. I do use fuelly for all my vehicles. I will check back in after my next fuel-up. But no matter. I am still comparing apples to apples in what I wrote.

Considering the city MPG is listed as 41 and the highway MPG at 39 according to Lincoln, they're at least realistic ratings.

That mileage is pretty impressive considering on the expressway it's all engine (no electric motor).

What's the expressway mileage of a non hybrid MKZ?

I would imagine it's a bit better as it's probably lighter.

The electric switches on quite a bit while on the interstate.... esp on the level and downhill. Also it seems as cruise control has a better brain than in a full gas version.

thats very interesting. my buddys passat diesel would return about 42 mpg.
Mine did too before VW changed the computer software (tune) to try to impress EPA and get out of trouble with them and CARB. I got up to 50mpg at times !!

I thought the electric motor only worked at lower speeds, that's how the early hybrids were.

Does the car run on electric only sometimes, or is the engine always running?

My scan gauge shows engine RPM goes to ZERO..... so, assuming it is NOT running at all. Sometimes I can feel the engine restart too. It's pretty quiet shutting itself off and turning back on.

It would be interesting to see the log files of that car.:)

I wonder if anyone does a performance tune for those.:D

Badsax mentioned something like that about his, too.

"The MKZ is the only hybrid that can be battery only at 70mph" or somesuch.. replace "70" with [some surprisingly high speed] if you wish..

yeah i was thinking badsax tried to dyno his and the engine kept shutting down before the pull.
making some weird looking graphs.

We're getting around 27 MPG. And that's running between 75 to 95.

Back and forth to Fort Worth, with about 90% highway at 70, we're getting 26/26.5 MPG, with no idling to keep the AC going in the summer.

Not bad!

Find any lobsters up there?

Or Burt's Bees?

I don't know what else happens in Maine.. That's all I've got.
