Joe's Gray 98: The saga continues

Having cleared up my "fun" schedule a bit, it's time to get this front yard ornament up and running on all 8 cylinders.
For those unaware, Joe drove this car down here back in August with the misfire that Doug (RIP) was chasing last year.
On top of that, one of the sparkplugs decided to exit the head permanently. Despite all that, the car made it here in one piece.

Few shots of the MESS ! :roll_over:

Fast forward to now, the original engine out of the Ivory KB car is going into this gray 98.

Taking advantage of some warmer weather, I gave it a thorough wash. It's so much easier to work on clean stuff ;)

Before it goes back in the car, I will strip it to bare long block, and re-gasket the whole thing. We don't want Joe having any more problems, do we now :tongue-pink:

Also, the cobra intake manifold will be swapped over from the current engine, along with the oil pan, and engine harness.

And here it is all sealed up, intake mating surfaces prepped, and ready for final assembly.

Glad to see this is starting to get finished... Looks Awesome. If the timing works out maybe I can trek across the country with Joe to get it. You can check out how my car is doing after a few years.

Jeff had to text me to let me know I should be paying attention to my car's thread... :love-it:

Road trip!

Don't let Joe drive, it will have a miss, or missing plug by the time you get there. :err-what?:

Is there going to be some type of post mortem on the old motor? If so, maybe some type of pool to see who can diagnose the issue via the internet and from all the previous info on the motor. Proceeds to go into buying J a video camera and tripod for his garage that is motion controlled!!!

Getting the devil out ...

From what I can tell this engine has been using both coolant and oil. The head to block mating surfaces are literally wet of oil.
I think HGs are gone. I mean they've been long gone. 157k miles. Overheated once or twice. Not overly surprised. :err-what?:

Maybe one of those "cool summer nights" I'll have time to yank the heads off, and look for obvious signs, but for now, it's out and outside ;)
