Laptop screen not work.

I have a laptop that is about 1 year old and the screen stop work.
Easy fix, Just replace the LCD screen and it will work. I replace the LCD screen and cable to the screen.
Laptop screen still not work. I get a white screen now but the laptop still work with the external video port.

Look like the laptop is not going to be mobile anymore.

I'm think about getting a 30" LCD TV for the garage and just use the laptop in the garage.

Just looking for any ideal.

If this is a brand new "compatible" screen, I've actually had pretty good luck with them. I'd double-check that the connectors on both ends are tight, and oriented correctly. In some cases, the cable on the "screen" end is an edge-connector, and it is somewhat touchy. Make sure it is snug, and that you don't have it in backwards, of course..

Do you still have the original cable that went between the laptop and the screen? You could try using that instead of the new one.. Also, what is the make/model of the machine? there was a problem with video chipsets a few years back that caused a lot of problems. They'd overheat, and slowly die.. It may at least be worth researching. I'm thinking this should not be the case with yours if it is only a year old though.

Can't be the chipset....works on outboard screen. I'd go with the cable too....They are finicky suckers!

I got a new LCD panel replace under warranty from the computer shop. Still nothing. I tried the old cable, the new cable and still a white screen.
I pulled the CMOS battery to reset the motherboard setting and nothing. I think the video chipset is fried.

The laptop is a super cheap $300 gateway. It's not work much.

This is why I don't like laptop. You just cant replace a video card, you have to replace the whole damn thing.
The motherboard for this laptop cost $150 used.

Not sounding too promising.. I assume the "white" screen is what it was doing with the old display also?

Well, that's interesting.. Did the new screen come with a new inverter/transformer? If so, try swapping that in for use with the old screen? I have seen a few cases where just the backlight goes out on an LCD screen, so if turn on the laptop and shine a bright light at it, you'll see the screen is still working, just not visible due to the backlight being out.

The new screen being all white when the other was not leads me to wonder if there isn't something wrong with the new unit.

This is the 2nd screen I tried on the laptop and both where white. Both screen came with new inverter/transformer built in.
The first screen was LG and the other screen was (can't remember).

I'll swap the old inverter on the new screen when I get home today.

Sounds like a plan. You could try swapping a new inverter onto the old screen also, just in case that's all that was wrong with it.

The new ones tend to be no-name Chinese ones. But honestly, I've never run into a bad one. the only "quirk" is that for some reason the "brightness" commands seem to be reversed on them. (up is dim, down is bright..)

I could not switch out the inverter/transformer. The ribbon cable is glued onto the inverter/transformer.

I did notice the model was different on the old screen and the new screen.

Do you think that is a problem?

The old screen is B156XW02 v.6.
The new screen is B156XTN02.2

I'm doing a bit of googling, and it looks like they may be slightly different. They're both 1366x768, but I'm seeing the XW02 listed as the "glossy" finish, and the XTN02 as the "Matte." And apparently they're both LED baclkit, which means that the inverter really isn't even a factor these days. I guess I'm getting old.. :) I'm not sure where you sourced yours, but I'm seeing them on both Amazon and Ebay for around $50.

Anyway.. no. I don't think the different model numbers should be a problem. They appear to be interchangeable.

The inverter/transformer is much small on the B156XTN02.2 (Newer screen).

I want to but the new screen (B156XW02 v.6) just to see if it works.

LOL. (Sigh..) And you are sure it isn't just "turned off?"

Many laptops have a button to switch between the internal screen and an external one. often something like Fn + F4 You'll usually see the icon for it printed on the key.. Although lately, the "secondary" functions of the keys have often been swapped with the primary ones on some makes. (so just F4, without pressing "FN")
