Lincoln Navigator SunRoof Repair Options

The sunroof on our Lincoln Navigator doesn't close and pop up to become level with the car anymore. I've hunted down a few options so far.

1 - Dealer - Wants $1800 to replace the entire sunroof track assembly. 2 year, unlimited mileage warranty
2 - Top King (local custom shop) - Wants $800 to install a used assembly 6 month warranty
3 - Top King- Wants about $800 to install a rebuild kit - 3 month warranty

What's your guy's thoughts?

Try to talk the dealer down to $1500. Tell them that you can get it done aftermarket for $800 but you'd rather stick to OEM and would like to meet in the middle.

After I told the dealer I was going to shop around, they came back with $1583. I just like the idea of new parts and a 2 year warranty, but I'm going to take it Top King for an estimate in person just to see if it doesn't need the full rebuild process.

Well I ordered the parts and will have the dealer fix it on Monday. What surprised me was they offered to include a free rental while they were working on. Glad I have a reasonable dealer near my home!

Wow... that's really nice. That probably close to makes up the price difference for the other shop.

That's refreshing. :)

What parts broke?
Not entirely sure what broke. It started a few months ago with the sunroof making quite a bit of wind noise at 70 MPH+ off and on. We also noticed it would shudder when closing. We took it to the dealer about 3 weeks ago to have them adjust it and lube everything up. It seemed much better after that. Then one day it got all the way to the point of almost closing, but stopped and some plastic pieces fell out. Since the dealer has to replace the entire track to fix, that's what they are doing.

I know Sunroof Dr sells rebuild kits, which is what Top King was going to use...but if they specialize in sunroof repair and only support a rebuild with a 3 month warranty I decided to pass.
