New Hood

With the latest build of the Blue Flame requiring a hole in the hood, the search for a fix found this...

It is actually intended as a cowl hood for a Marauder but it seemed to fit pretty close.

I went this past weekend and picked it up from the fiberglass shop and installed it on the car.

Nice! Going to paint it blue or leave it?
I'm going to leave it as it is for now. But I do plan to have it blended in and painted in the off season.

I'm thinking of installing some type of hood pins, so now would be the perfect time.

Either the AeroCatch...

or the Quick-Latch...

What do you think?

Quick-latch looks prettier, but it also looks like it might be fairly easy to not get it latched correctly?

I'm having a tough time envisioning the "clasp" mechanism on the AeroCatch, however.

Now get you one of these off a 2006-2010 Dodge charger and you will be set.View attachment 14517
I don't think we're quite that fast... :love-it:

Besides, the drag coefficient of a Mark VIII is pretty low. Not saying a proper wing wouldn't help, but in a 1/4 mile race it would likely be minimal?

I'm still on the fence with the hood latches. I'll have to look at the hood and header panel closer to see which may work best and be easier to install.

I was thinking of just having "windows" cut out on the back of the cowl hood and using some mesh backing just to make it better for heat extraction. I suppose there would be room for some functional gauges (and perhaps a couple LED warning lamps).

That's how the SCP hood does it. I've been wanting to put 4 gauges in there for a while, but with a stock car I've got nothing that important.

I like that more then "A" pillar gauges, I don't like anything that doesn't look like it came from the factory.

just remember, right now it's water-tight...cut holes for air = holes for water to get it. it does rain from time to time between tracks and you might have to wash the car.

Our S-10 race truck had a 4" cowl hood andour '69 Roadrunner had the large open 6-pack scoop which meant extra care when water was used/fell from the sky.
