Parting out a very rusty car

I'll post some more unprogress pics of this car as I can.:)

I've already removed the front airsprings, some of the interior, front bumper, grille, and headlights.

Today, I cut chunks of the frame out, to get to 4 of the 8 front K member nuts that were spinning loose.

I used a handy air hacksaw, it was easier than it looks. I started where there was already a hole (I drilled 1) and just ran the saw till it stopped.:)

Then some vice grips on the nut were all that was needed. It's hard to see with all the rust, so I tried to circle where the nuts were.

That saw is great, it really comes in handy cutting the rust bucket apart. The tetanus shot sounds like a good idea. :)

I should probably explain the history of this car. I bought it from Steve (Sergmark) in 2010, to replace my rusting out Red Mark VIII winter car.

It had 100K miles on it, today it has 144K on it. When I bought it, the rockers were already rusting out and the paint had clearcoat issues, so it made a great winter beater.

The rest of the car was in great shape and it was a very reliable car, up to the end, when the rust took over and the gas tank almost fell out. :D

Here are some photos of it, when I first bought it, last winter doing snow duty, and a couple photos as it sits now, being taken apart.

Yes it did Steve. It ran great all the way to the end. The engine and 97 Jmod trans still run great and the black interior is still in great shape as well.

Yesterday I removed the fuel tank, driveshaft, carpet, and cut the trans cross member out. I already cut all the hoses to the engine and disconnected everything connecting the engine to the body. The only thing left to do is pull the body off the k member and pull the dash out.

Here's some photos, note the pile of wire harness hiding my needed JBL wires, my rust free brake line mod running in front of the AC condensor, and the rusty remains of the fuel tank shield. Who said galvanized steel doesn't rust? :D

All these photos makes me want to go out and hug my DD Darthv8er. Shame you had to loose it in such a way Bill.

I remember Jeremi and I pulled the trans out and It already had a rebuilt in it.
I am surprised my bird crap welds held all these years. I never had any welding experience as you can see.
The car sat over a year on grass after it was totaled before I brought it back to life, Which contributed to all the colorful metal.:err-what?:

The death of one Mark will breath life into another, God knows I have over 50 different Mark's worth of parts in my jalopy.

Oh yes, the parts will be used.

Steve, I thought the trans was a 97?

Or am I mixing that up with a different car? :D

Jeremi stopped by yesterday with his engine hoist and helped me pull the body off of the K member. Thanks again Jeremi!

I had it all ready to go except the occasional wire or hose that needed to be cut.

Everything went smoothly, it was almost too easy to get the engine and trans out this way. :)

I've done it both ways, this way is better.

Are you going to try and save the rear cradle? I've got people always asking for them. Can probably get $300 for it.
