Good idea to plan it Bill!

We used to go at the end of September and did luck out with nice weather, but summer would be great, too.

I won't be able to make late June/early July, as I'm hoping to go to the Grand Prix at Indy this year which is over the July 4 weekend.

Love that part of the country. Drove (boated) in an Aquacar from Catawba Island (not really an island) to South Bass Island back in the late 60s. A college friend's family had the TV antenna business on South Bass. So with camping allowed in their backyard and 3.2 beer, life was great.

Kelleys Island is more for campers. Check out this link for additional info: http://www.heartofohio.com/SouthBassIsland.htm

Another plus or minus, is that that area is close to Cedar Point. All-in all that area is the nicest family get-a-way area in the midwest. Carlisle is 375 mostly turnpike miles from Catawba Island.

How about late July early August then?
[/div]

Late July early August should work for me.

I've seen a couple of amphicars on put in bay. not sure if they took the ferry or not though.

i'm up for whenever, if we plan in advance. I will either meet you at put-in-bay by boat, or tow the boat to port clinton and run across with it from there. It will all depend on gas prices.

Dave, let me know if you need an extra (1955) Navigator for the trip across lake Erie. I've still got my charts..:)Where did everyone meet for the last Put-in-Bay meet?.
[/div]

I don't think we're welcome there anymore.

We were in the Port Clinton fall festival of some sort and provided a car show for them. The festival would probably have us back, but I don't think the hotel on the corner would.

I've found that history has proven when us MK8 people converge in one place, things often go awry...

Not to say we don’t have fun… because we do… }(

From the last put-in-bay 'experience' there was the exploding beer incident, numerous moments of almost flipping the golf cart (yay dental floss), the boat people, which resulted in a trophy for Sharon and Emily hating me for the rest of time... :7 The hotel, and it's various unlocked decoration storage areas (I wonder if they ever fixed that fan?), not to mention excellent fire escapes. Perpetual public drunkenness, mastering the art of police avoidance while on foot...

I mean, those are just some of the things that I can manage to remember... think of all the crazy stuff I'm not even thinking of... :+

If I have time, I'll do some digging for pictures, cause I know there are a lot of good ones out there somewhere. :7

Somehow I think that the hotel is not in business any more. They have not had a newsletter in about a year and their website has been unavailable for about 8 months. Oh well we just need to terrorize another hotel. Possibly one actually on the island. Here is a link to a new hotel just opening on the island and their rates. http://www.bayshoreresortpib.com/hotel_rooms/rates.php I have not forgotten about the dental floss trick either. And this time I refuse to sing for anyone. LOL And if we do it in early Fall I will probably be back with a Mark VIII too. We should check into the Christmas in July at PIB as I here it is a blast. That comming from several reporters at the Sandusky Register that I talked to about 2 weeks ago. Hope to see you all at PIB.

Hotels on the island are not cheap. But then again it'll probably cost me $250 in gas round trip, and $100 or so to dock for a couple of nights.

Pick a weekend and i'll plan on coming. I hear Christmas in July is a blast, but i might have trouble getting a well that weekend as it will be PACKED.

Some time when it's still hot and summery, but i'd plan on shooting for relatively early or late in the season.

There is a campground on the island for those who don't want to spend the bucks on a hotel room. And i generally find camping to be much drunken fun. http://www.putinbay.com/camping.htm

Here is link to hotels on the island. Some are new or only a year or so old. Note the swim up bar. That should be interesting. If some one will give me some kind of body count and date approx there are some additional places I could try to get some group rates. I have been laying low as I have my house up for sale, and have started a part time job with a local parts outfit so have been busy. I am however going to Norwalk this Friday for Smack Down, and hope to grab some vids of Silver Streak. X-mas in july is a zoo and pricey, but I understand the urge. Feel free to PM me, as I will post after the holiday week end.:) :)

How about starting Friday July 21st?I can make most any weekend, as I live close to Put-in-Bay, but I thought I'd throw out a date.If anyone can't make it, then we can change the date.I'll be doing the camping thing (as I always do) but the hotel would be a great place to meet up.Opinions please..:)
[/div]

As of now I'm available all weekends. The island itself looks pretty pricey, and I'm not pleased about not being able to bring my car there. Camping could be fun...., although I really am fond of indoor plumbing and air conditioning.

I'd actually be worried about taking my car to the Island.Did you do that the last time? How about a hotel in Port Clinton? Our cars would be safer there, and we could take the ferry to and from the islands.
[/div]

No we didn't take the cars. We stayed in Port Clinton and took the Ferry over.

There are some nicer hotels just down the road a little ways from Port Clinton. I think we may be wise to stay off the island to keep costs down for everyone. Cars are also safer on the mainland as the drunks can get a little out of hand. I am free most any weekend now as well. I just hope I can find a new Mark VIII before the meet.

July's pretty booked for me now. The only free weekend is the 21st, but that would kinda be overdoing it for me.

August weekends seem ok for me. I admit July is probably not a good month as I have several roller coaster trips planned now. Cross your fingers as I am going to look at another 98 mark viii lsc today. Maybe something will materialize.

I was thinking early september for a combined cedar point / put-in-bay boat trip. I believe PIB has a "new years in september" weekend.

Sure. Pick a day!

If it comes down to it i'll just drive down and launch my boat at Port Clinton.

Keep in mind, I won't know for sure whether i can go until maybe 2 days before. Lake Erie can kick up in a hurry, and if i'm coming from the Detroit River, it's a 30 mile run to PIB, if i'm coming from Port Clinton, it's a 15 mile run. That's a long way if there are 4 footers or more out there.
