*sigh* Transmission Blew Up and lost 3rd and 4th

Yep....fixed the steering leak and now my transmission took a dump. Left a light and boosted through 1st and fishtailed through 2nd and then let off before it shifted to 3rd. Then gave it steady gas as if cruising at 45ish and noticed it was revving high, kinda neutraling out. Turned down the radio as I was pulling to a stop light (still in D) and heard a rotational clunking/banging. Turned right and it wouldn't shift out of second, just neutrals out and tries to shift but bangs and clunks. Makes the same banging noise when I stopped and put it in park. Ended up driving all the way home in 2nd gear without any issues......

:(

From what I'm told....less then 15k miles on this built 2004 Mach 1 transmission.

Dropping like flies ... bad time for these cars. I always say that they break down from sitting.

It's a 2003 Mach1 trans BTW. While far from bulletproof, it was a good unit.

Look on the bright side though. Best time for a M6 swap IMO.

I didn't turn the OD off, what would that effect?

Okay, 2003. :) What's a M6 swap?

The passing of "Carlisle" has had a lot of negative impacts on our Lincolns lately. Where did all this bad "Ju-Ju" come from? No meets for me!!!

My car made it to carlisle and back without much trouble. I figure it's waiting until next week, when I am in the middle of Utah.... Much more remote.

It did feel sweet, it's just a big swap and then a tune and then a drive shaft and then etc. Can't afford it right now really....

Just sucks, I've only had it for a few months and really haven't driven it too much. What did you guys do to this thing!!?? I just bought it and I think I put 3k miles on it? Not to mention it's out of the July 2nd cruise and Mike P was gonna visit and use my green one to drive around. Meh.

I would say that is exactly why your trans broke by not turning off the overdrive. Always turn it off before going WOT - at a stop, or going 80mph, it doesn't matter what speed you are going. Turn it off, especially if your spinning the wheels.

Jesse doesn't believe in OD off button due to CHP policies :p

I did it religiously on my marks and on the Crown vic which is now at 265k on the original 4r70w

That said i thought the 98+ transmissions fixed the 4-2 downshift grenade issue.

What does it matter from a dead stop? The trans isnt starting from 4th when you leave the light. Does it have to do with the pressures or something? Doesn't make sense to me. :)

Its only a few less miles than I put on it, ;) I babied the car. The only trans thing I ever saw was not letting it downshift under load, always manually do it, but we talked about that a few times.

this whole "overdrive off" thing is new to me too.. I guess I'm lucky..

Edit: Actually, I wonder if my tune from Lonnie addressed this. I noticed the car seemed slower off the line afterward. time for some experimentation with the O/D button.

Hmm.
