Spare Tire Size

When I bought my '05 Town Car there was no spare or jack. Who knows why. Anyway, would it have been a mini spare or a full size? I've found mini spares for sale on eBay but they are all 16". Will the mini spares work alright?

I honestly believe that any year temporary mini donut spare would work as long as it is 16 inches. They are so narrow and smaller in diameter that I don't think you would have a problem with your 05 and the high offset.

Standard it would have a donut spare, and it would likely be a 16 incher. That will clear the brakes. Optionally you could get a full size spare. Most of the Panthers got a steel spare wheel, some got an unfinished or painted version of the road wheel (like the Marauder).

Where the jack mounts also varies. Mini spare it seems to mount under the wheel. If you get the full sized spare from the factory then there is a jack mount on the passenger size behind the trunk carpet. It is spot welded and not easily added after the fact.

I pick up every Town Car aluminum temp wheel/spare I can. The tires don't have a lot of the UV protection road tires have, so they have to be kept out of the sun, but they make it easy to move around my 63 Falcon. I also keep one in my 2000 Grand Marquis, one at the house (so I can put it on when I have a flat at home). I had the weights of steel versus aluminum someplace, but can't find it. It is enough that it makes me think my wife could get it out of the trunk (I don't see her changing a flat though).

I have a 17 inch temp spare from a newer Mustang someplace, in case I ever install the Cobra brakes on my Mark VIII, and do a hub swap and swap out the wheels as well. The Mustang 17 inch one would fit your car as well.

Trying to get a 17 inch temp spare for the smaller mn12/fn10 bolt pattern has been a failure, Volvo 17 has too much backspacing and hits the caliper, Lincoln LS 17 is way to large for the space in the trunk (and is actually taller than the tires I actually run!).

Bangston covered the basics.

here's what it looks like in the trunk. (Again, this is a '99, but I don't know how much that matters.)
