tired of the headlights

I'm wanting to put aftermarket hids in the low and highs. My lows look like halogen bulbs (conversion?) And they are dim as hell. Its like having a jar full of fireflies. Problem is my headlights seem to take on moisture. Especially when it rains or I wash it. How will this effect the hids? If I run clear silicon around the edge of housing (source of the leak) would this be enough of a seal? Also if the low was converted what bulb size would it be?

Ok I have more info. I took the passenger light out to get a better look and here's what I found out.

1: it is a halogen conversion.
2: bulb is a 9005
3: its a very crappy conversion in which they thought it was a good idea to notch out a piece of the housing and this is the actual source of the moisture breech.
4: I can save my headlight if I can stop the moisture. But how do I go about plugging this huge notch? Yes both sides are the same way.
Please help me with this soon as I want to order my kit this month. Thanks!

I'm not Gen2 savvy but a pic would help.

There are/were Halogen headlamp assemblies available for the Gen2's. It was Ford's way to replace the discontinued HID bulb debacle. But they are pricey when new. You may be able to locate a used set on eBay?

An HID kit with 9006 bulbs will work but you will have to make custom bulb retainers. With the headlight housings out and on a work bench it won't take much engineering to fabricate some. High temperature silicone sealant should work for your notches unless the housings are really butchered up.

Mine was an original hid headlight. They used some sort of screw on black plastic "strap" to hold the bulbs in. I don't know if that's original equipment for the hid or not. But the highs and lows are 9005. Is the high beam supposed to have a cone over the bulb? Cuz mine do not. And these notches are like 1/2" deep by 1" long.

With "LOD" Since 1997
halogen for the highs are factory, the HID's took a while to warm up so incandescent halogen were used. today cars use a shield that raises and lowers over the HID bulb to do low and high. Having a separate HID for highs is not a good idea.

Did not know that about a separate high beam hid. I knew the high was factory halogen. I'll just upgrade it then. I already ordered a 9005 hid kit for the lows.

Yes, the low beam is shielded, you should be able to see it in this image. I don't think I would want to use those housings if the shield is removed with HID (or with halogen for that matter). The high beams are not shielded, and I second that you shouldn't use HID there because they take too long to warm up.

I recently installed some 9006 HID bulbs, and made a post on how I mounted them, however if they enlarged the hole for the 9005 bulbs, then that is another strike against reusing them.

Does anyone have a good photo of the back of the headlight housing for him? I'll bet it would be useful to see what both the unmodified headlamp cutout looks like, and what the whole thing looks like including the "cap" that goes over the back of the HID bulb.

I'm afraid I don't have anything like that to offer..

Don't you have two sitting in your basement...? :D

This is what the adapter plates look like some made of steel, some of plastic.

I make stuff
image.jpgFWIW, I make and sell the white plastic aftermarket HID adapters pictured earlier.

Hit me up once you figure out what the previous owner messed up, if you'd like a set.

Oh wow mine is all sorts of jacked up then. I'd post a pic but I've hit my limit?
That's just our small way of saying you should be a member! ;) I think you can link the from foto bucket or something but it's better to attach so the picture allways stays with the thread.

Those backing plates are what I'm trying to find. Does someone sell them? I'm interested to find anything written out that details how to wire these in and keep my delayed headlamps feature as well. Any help?
