Track time!

Not much to brag about, but I had an opportunity to finally get to the track on short notice.

It was a rather warm summer day, so it was not the best of times and I had so little preparation, I hadn't prepared well enough to bring my tuning stuff with me so all we got to do was make a few passes and practice. ;)

It started out rather lacking with a 1.952 sixty foot and the 1/4 mile ET was 12.923 @ 107.11. We followed that with a 12.815 @ 108.98. The trap speeds were encouraging. :)

Then we stalled a little higher on the converter trying to get a better sixty foot time and eeked out a 1.900 sixty foot and was awarded with a 12.730 @ 109.17 time slip. After a couple more passes running 12.7's we hauled in a 12.701 @ 108.93 with a 1.858 sixty foot time. Someone told me there was a 12.6 in it, but I didn't necessarily believe it.

Until...



Density altitude was over 2,500', so I wasn't complaining with those numbers. :wink:

Seems like any mod motor ive had the higher you can stall them the better. The old 'flash' the converter never worked for me on any mod motor.

For me, it's not so much the motor as the converter. Back when the car was stock or at least with the stock converter, I always got my best launches 'flashing' from idle. With a high stall converter, the higher I can stall it at the line, the better the 60' times, especially so with the Circle D 4400 stall converter I have now.

I've found the issue is my reaction times can suffer since the launch is not quite as predictable. I've been told I need to install a 2-step launch control?

Thanks, the 12.6 was gratifying but the trap speeds were what I was genuinely impressed with. I do not believe I was experiencing any tire spin but I did note breaking traction a couple times on the 1-2 shift.

I'm fairly confident with some dataloging and tweaking of the tune, there is quite a bit of ET to be gained. One thing I've learned over the years running at Mason Dixon in warmer weather, there are better times to look forward to. ;)

Nice to see. I guess a two step would help in holding rpm at launch either way its all going to be seat time to see what the car wants and learn how to consistently launch it there.
I always preferred to race foot brake no gadget, old school I guess.
it seems obvious as your ET drops with your sixty which is nice but meaningless without finding a spot were its predicable.
Happy to see it in the 12s. :thumbsup:

Should be low 12s in some crisp air this fall which aint too shabby considering that is where I was on pump gas and 9 lbs of boost. Lol. I wonder how this 5.3 would do if it was an LS. ;)

If I can manage to get the sixty foot time down in the 1.7s and optimize the shift points and converter lockup, I would be happy. As it is, the car is pulling strong on the back half of the track.

what's the little puck on the right side of the hood scoop?

Nice times...I know I'm out of the loop lately but your signature says 12.55 @ 106++
when did it run that if your happy with a 12.60x?

The Marauder cowl hood wasn't quite wide enough to cover the cutout for the intake tube with it centered on the hood so they just added a little bump out to close it up.

The 12.5 ET was from late 2011 on the previous engine build. Things went slowly south from then until mid 2015 when a broken secondary sprocket/chain necessitated the latest iteration.

The car was down for over a year until last fall and was just dynotuned this spring. The block, crank, rods and heads were reused with new pistons, cams, valve train, upgraded timing components, Canton oil pan and the Hogans intake manifold.

Happy is such a relative state of being. :fart
