We had a huge snow storm last couple of days and I drove the Mark to town a 10 mile trip. As I was going I noticed the the engine reved into the red several times. when I got to a parking lot I put it in Park and reved it expecting it to hit the limiter at around 5000. nope just went right into the red. I stopped at the edge afraid I would hurt it.

I have no idea. My car never did that, and I would never rev the engine in park to find out.

Why do you want to do this? I've seen people do this, thinking that it might "fix" their engine problem, but it never does from what I've seen. It's not a good idea.

oh i never rev mine past like 3-4k in park but in gear is another story.

Revving past 4K in park is hard on the torque converter.

My rev limit has been moved up to 7k, and my car shifts at WOT at 6.5K. Moving the shift up 500 rpms is one of the best things I've done...avoids the weaker bottom end. The quad cam setup makes it fairly safe to rev high.

For the later models with the 'beehive' style valve springs.

Didn't know that. The later models being 96 and up?

yes 96+ have hte beehives, however i have revved the ever living piss out of my red car a couple times as it has no rev limit(7500+).

The old style springed engines will float the valves sooner than the beehive springs. The 96+ engines are good for 7300-7500rpm's before they become unstable.

The crower or comp ovate wire springs are good for around 8600rpm's if i remmeber right.

SHM dual springs are good for 10,000rpm's.
