Window trim

Does anyone know the actual composition of the trim surrounding the windows? Most threads on the forum refer to it as chrome, and being that it's magnetic this was my first guess. However, a couple threads on LVC said that it was actually stainless steel. I know most stainless steel isn't magnetic (austenitic), but some actually is (ferritic).

Before I attempt to make this trim shine better than new, I need to make sure I use the proper polish.

I use Mothers Billet Metal Polish on the bare (non-painted) stainless window trim with awesome results. Zaino Z-8 Grand Finale Spray Seal for touch-up's between polishing. Z-8 works great on the painted stainless too.

Mike, thanks for the heads up. Mothers billet polish was one of my choices, but your results helped solidify my decision.

For what it's worth, I came across an old post by Sapperfire on LVC where he took some 180 grit sandpaper and scuffed the window trim just to show how well his polishing methods worked. The fact that he was able to polish these scratches out pretty much means the trim "is stainless steel", and not chrome plated. Scratches are nearly if not totally impossible to buff out of chrome, especially the deep ones he made.

Final conclusion, the window trim is stainless steel.

Thanks,
Tim

I use Mother's Billet Polish on the bare aluminum intercooler tube work, supercharger, intake, breather adapter, power steering reservoir, window trim, wheels, exhaust tips, and even the IAC for years now, and the shine is awesome
