Windshield wiper afterthought?

I own a 98 mark 8. I have always thought the windshield wipers were an afterthought. The wipers do not sweep the full arc of the windshield. When adjusted to the far side of the driver's side----then the wipers don't park properly. i've had the car to theshop several times only to find out this is a characteristic of the car. My question is: the solution to this would be to install a longer windshield wiper motor "crank". But how do i find which "crank" will fit the factory motor? has anyone out there found a longer wiper motor "crank" and/or wiper arms that will do the job? I'm looking for the wipers to make a full sweep across the windshield and also park properly. Please respond as it's driving me crazy!!!:(

RE: Windshield wiper afterthought?

They've always seemed normal to me. My driver side top edge stops about 2" from the door pillar, and when parked it's about midway in the black on the bottom windshield. How much closer do you need?
